Being in Logistics I get to talk to a lot of different folks. This will go on until things break. Everyone I talk to in their industries is pretty much trying to milk things for everything they can get and by that I mean they know its a crazy market. They have prices very inflated and will continues to push to increased cost as high as they can get and make as much money as they can until it blows. There is no concern for anyone other than themselves and their companies. They get charged more from the folks on top of them and so on. All along the chain you are seeing it and will continue to see it., If you have crazy deep pockets or your ok with going into mega debt to get stuff more power to you. I know 3 people that were looking to get JT but have bowed out and are just sticking with what they are driving in the hopes that one day the market will come back down. But don't count on that anytime soon.

Wtf. I've been saving to get an Overland with the manual, thinking I had some time before the whole thing was axed..

And now I read this!

Looks like my day is ruined
Sorry. GO now and se if you can order a 2022 it's still available there. Another option is to just get a rubicon or mojove. I just built a rubicon similar to my overland and it only added another $2,000 but you do get a lot for the $2,000. Mojave was a bit more, not sure if it's worth it there. The rubicon has more name recognition for resale in the future if that's something your worried about.

Another options is the Willys model. I wanted leather so doing this again I'd go rubicon. If you want cloth the Willys option might be your 2nd best bet.

I'm forcing myself to look at the finances this afternoon to see if it's feasible.. I don't like making emotionally based decisions.. especially when it's a 70,000 cdn purchase ☹

I'm the guy they made the Overland for.. it's exactly what I want. Some creature comforts on the inside, no ridiculous badging on the hood, no mud tires, no fake hood vents, and an available read LSD for winter time. That's it.. that's me right there..

The Rubicon.. you're right.. better resale.. but I'll never use the lockers, or disconnects. The whole purpose of the Rubicon is wasted on a guy like me.. similar with the Mojave.. and truthfully, I don't want the flashiness of it.. it's not me.

And then there's the 6sp.. this was my chance to get a mid size, with a 6 sp, that has significantly better road manners then my old TJ.. and they deleted the option, probably just to justify a price increase.

I'd never considered a new car purchase until the JT Overland with 6mt became a thing.. this this is going to cost me double the total cost of every other car I've purchased in my life!

I'm sure the grumpiness will pass.. I'll cook the numbers, see if I can swing it, and if not.. back to driving 15 year old Toyota's ?

Not that I like seeing prices go up, but this is still lower than the real inflation over the past 2.5 years?

Looked at what it would cost to replace the Overland I bought in Oct 2020 with an identical 2023. $6,985 more! Wish my income was up 13% in two years. Last saw this when Jimmy Carter was in the Whitehouse.

If we all put away the plastic and our checkbooks for a while, the rate of price increases would slow down.

I know mine jumped $1300 from when I ordered in April. Just delivered 3 days ago. Thankfully I had the ordered price protection. One thing to consider also is rebates. There were none when I ordered. $3500 when I signed my paperwork yesterday. $3500 price increase is still a lot though. I did lose a point in interest from then till now. Could have been worse, but glad I got my 22 when I did.

But its not really the last 2.5 years. 2021 model were built and sold well into the end of the year. 2022s were s short year. We are really talking 1 calendar year.

MSRP on my basic '22 Sport S was less than 44 with a few options and I got it 6% below invoice. You can still get one of these from a good dealer and not break the bank if you don't NEED the extra stickers and stuff.

Ya, but the price on a 2021 model was figured up in 2020 and now the 2023 price was figured up in 2022? Isn't that the same basic 2-2.5 year time line? True, if you were looking at ordering a 2021 in June of 2021 and now looking at a 2023 in August of 2022 it's only 1 calendar year, but 2 model years.

Everybody has been fixated on what has happened since late 2019.

What most haven't been paying attention to, the common metals that are used have been going up in price since about 2010.
For awhile, most manufacturers were eating the minimal increases. Well that time has ended and ALL the increases are coming due in a short period.

Steel, aluminum, copper are all used to build many, many things. Cars, trucks, ships, planes, buildings. So you have a high demand of these basic metals, which makes prices increase, you have more expensive base materials to create said product, the cost to manufacture said products has increased, the cost to ship said products has increased.

Then you throw on top of that curve the fact that all petroleum products are now more expensive due to demand and a decrease in the production of petroleum products and BAM you have a multiplier to add in.

And then of course back to current day, nothing is done with cash on hand, it's all done on speculation and the Feds are playing with the rate and consumer interest rates have risen. So now everything done on speculation costs more and as normal in our country, the end user pays the total tab.

None of this is new, it's a cyclic economical phenomenon. It has happened before and everyone pretty much survived. What makes things different now is, the Government insists on trying to manipulate things instead of allowing the natural cycle to happen.
Has nothing to do with either political party, has to do with man being so egotistical that we as a group think we can fix anything, we're wrong. Let the cycle play out. Buckle down for the ride. It will be an ugly downhill for awhile, then the fun ride back up the other side will happen.

Before you want to debate/argue, 2007 (late)- 2010 is the last example. I made it through it (barely) without losing anything but my retirement. But it was damn close to losing everything.

While your not wrong per se, the manufactures also adjusted base prices and option prices during model years, and with the Gladiator not actually changing at all (aside from in a few cases making once optional features standard) I'm not giving them much slack for the model year designations.

It doesn't appear there are many of us around. I'm in the same boat. I considered doing a rubicon and removing all the flash and basically converting it into an overland but keeping the bits that make it a rubicon. Sounded like too much work and would likely backfire on resale anyway.

I also like LSD far better than lockers. The LSD gets used in 100% of my driving where I'd never activate the lockers either, so I'd be running open diff. This means more cost more complication for something that is less effective for my driving habits.

Don't get me wrong lockers are awesome and i love them for off road applications. My jeep just won't ever go those places. It pounds the pavement to and from work, and occasionally sees a grassy field. I can't help that I'd rather off road on an ATV than a vehicle.
