If you think that the dealerssips not wanting or not being able to fix your truck is strictly a Jeep thing, then you're not paying enough attention. Every brand is going through this problem right now.

As for me, to the original question, the Colorado means....nothing for my Gladiator. I am not fascinated by every new toy that comes out on the market and I really love my JT.

I'm glad to hear you liked your truck, but I think your positive impressions and experiences with GM products put you into the category of "Unicorn".
Not really. Most auto mags will classify the GM mid-size twins as the best handling body on frame vehicle out there. I'm sure that got updated as well for the next gen.

Yes. I know it is. It’s been like that with every Jeep I’ve owned and I haven’t had that problem since with any other brands.

They’re shooting themselves in the foot right now too. Every return visit dings their reliability stats and I know I’m not the only one they do it to.

Same experience with my Colorado just over 90k miles until I sold it. Of course it didn't have the fun factor nor the off road capabilities of the Jeep, which is an easy trade-off for me to give up a little on-road practicality.

To itch my curiosity and take up some time while stuck at the in-laws during a rainy long weekend, I went out for some test drives of few Silverados and Sierras in both the 2.7t and the 5.3 v8 back to back. The 2.7t really is the better motor as far as drivability and fun factor (unloaded / around town at least), which somewhat surprised me how much better I liked it. Now to be fair I also went out in a Ram 1500 shortly thereafter, and even with the 3.23 gears (I would certainly get the 3.92s), the 5.7 Hemi probably would get the nod (certainly the better v8 than the chevy 5.3), but now we all know how the comparison vs the general's 6.2 would go...

Point being, that 2.7t, particularly in the HO version is going to be an absolute rocket in the mid sized twins.

Now, my test drives didn't get me any closer to closing a Colorado/Canyon over a Gladiator. I also sat back in the back seat of the current gen of those things again (aside from materials used, space doesn't seem to be changing), and they are likely still nixed because of the room (or lack thereof) for carseats. But that 1500 TrailBoss with the 6.2 though... ?

The power numbers look great, 310 hp and 390-430 ft/lbs is phenomenal. The suspension on the upper trims will be sweet too. The interiors are finally something I would consider and not made by Rubbermaid.

I don’t know about the cylinder deactivation though. How’s that going to feel on a 4 cyl. Not to mention some of the issues GM is having with that on the 1500.

nice to see the midsize market getting some attention and the manufacturers are finally getting off their asses.
Cylinder deactivation is nearly imperceptible and not a hydraulic setup like on the V8s. Driving a 4 cylinder 1500 the same way I drive my Gladiator - I get almost 3 MPG better in the Chevy.

I was responsible for getting the extra torque out of the 2.7L - It really drives nicer than the V8s. If only we got the 10 speed, it would be even better.

The 1500 tows 9600# like a freight train, up 68 outside of Davis Dam at 114F with zero issues.

The particular day we were out testing in 2019, there was a development Gladiator doing towing work as well. :)

Well that’s good to hear. I watched a video from TFL where they towed a trailer filled with ATV’s up a mountain and it overheated on them. It was equipped with a towing package too from what I remember.

If you're cross shopping them, then you dont need/want a convertible jeep with a truck bed and honestly any current truck is a better daily driver than the JT. The JT is a wrangler with a bed, and much like the wrangler before the bronco, is the only real player in the segment. The gladiator is a lifestyle vehicle, you buy it not because its the best daily driver or pickup (its neither of those) but because you like the jeep appeal and are okay with the tradeoffs it comes with. That said, the JL and JT are still great daily drivers even if behind IFS and the JT is really only hampered by its shallow bed in the midsize pickup segment as far as utility.
Not exactly in my experience. I left a 2018 tacoma for my 2021 jeep and it’s been a better work truck by far. I can go on and on and it has 0 to do with the jeep qualities
