Same issue happened on my Mojave with almost the exact same mileage as the OP.
just failed one day without warning, would not shift into drive - reverse or neutral. Multiple codes.
had it towed to a dealer, when they got time to look at it they found burnt oil and metal pieces when they drained the transmission fluid. So a replacement 8-speed was ordered Thankfully under warranty.
I'm not happy with such a major item failing, and the work that was involved to replace it(having to remove other parts to remove and install the trans). But the dealer was good, I was also very patient which helped.
It was a refurbished unit that was installed, at least from what I searched on the part numbers.

I got it back a few days ago, so I'm super paranoid when driving it listening to every noise and being extra sensitive to how it up shifts and downshifts. I do feel that it is a bit clunky on downshifting - but hopefully that is my imagination. Just going to put miles on it and hope for the best.

Just beware that if you have larger than 35" tires you might run into warranty issues. I had just my stock wheels and tires so there was no pushback.

I'm just posting this info here, in case someone else has issues in the future when they are searching they can see that others (even if it's rare) have had a similar experience.

I noticed some clunky shifts over the weekend and scheduled it to be serviced.
However, on my way home from work, I accelerated and a loud clunk happened. I then went into limp mode.

luckily, I was near a dealer and was able to get it in. Honestly expecting a new transmission after the issues OP expressed, which is exactly what I have been experiencing with my Jeep ever since I got it.

fyi: I have~ 35k on my jeep

What part # did they use? For the transmission assembly.

That does show as a reman transmission. I didn’t expect that because they didn’t use a reman when they did mine in July.

Yup, that is correct.
I didn't really have any choice - due to part shortages, dealer did it's best to find a transmission and this is what they got. I was hard down waiting for weeks, I'm not even sure if my "new" one is really that great - to me it's not down shifting that smoothly. But I've only done approx 130 miles on it so far.
I was told that the replacement transmission has a two year unlimited miles warranty(which is separate to the overall power train warranty). So if it goes bad again then it will be for Jeep to replace.
It's unfortunate overall, but what can you do.

So glad I found this thread as mine is exactly doing this. Dealer will not replace till it fails more. Could this go on for 100K miles? I don't feel good about taking it on a trip with failure in the future. Does anyone know what fails or what causes the failure?
