This I6TT is not going to fit in the current JT platform dot period. Not sure why it's still being rumored or discussed.

If you think I'm full of shit.......measure the distance between your V6 engine block and the radiator and tell me where the forward 3 cylinders are going to sit. It's simple math and space equation

They will probably change the design anyway ever so slightly if they plan to use that motor

Maybe on the refresh for the JT, but who knows when that might be. I'd rather have a 4xe JT for tax credits.

If they come out with a Mojito! 4xe........I will sell and buy that

I made that post almost a year ago. Ha! Back on topic, I can't wait to get rid of gas engines. This pentastar sucks, face it. It's power sucks, it's efficiency sucks, and other than "working", there isn't anything I can say I really like about it. I drove by another gas station today, which raised its prices $0.30 overnight, likely because it got windy over Antarctica and "futures" and people speculating something, and a potential war in Turkmenistan, etc. etc.

So sick of it. I will never buy a gasoline engine again in a new vehicle.
Then you will be dependent on someone else to purchase the petroleum products to generate the electricity to charge the batteries in the car (Or, pay for a large enough solar power generation and storage system).

But it's out of sight and out of mind, so you hustle down to Starbucks and let them kids think you're saving their planet for them ?

The engineers were not allowed to change the design for cooling issues, with the engines that fit. I seriously doubt that design changes will be allowed to stuff a larger engine in the space.

They could fit an online 6 in a jeep, and still have it looks like a jeep (they did that for a long time, after all). Probably next generation, though, designed front the ground up for it.

Part of the problem is that people have the length of things like a 4.0 in mind. Use an off-block water pump, redesign the rear for the torque converter or flywheel, the I6 can be shortened quite a bit.

This is an experimental aluminum head I have for a 4.0 - to show the wasted space.........

Modern mains are not as wide, and I can see where space could be saved by using the modern casting techniques used with the 3.6 - those blocks are die cast, not sand cast. You can make things smaller more easily.

Seriously? I've towed with the 3.6 multiple times, driven in mountains, driven almost non-stop from FL to IA a few days ago (stopped only for fuel and a short nap at a rest stop) and we were getting 22 mpg in FL, 20 in other areas (then it tanked when we got to IL and IA again......... the hills, seriously did our mpg in)
Plenty of power, no trouble zipping in with the extremely rude GA drivers who would rather play chicken than merge like a civilized person (the women drivers there SUCK and are beyond rude)
Luckily the 3.6 in the JT could handle the challenges of driving with neanderthal drivers down there.
The 3.6 is very efficient and actually runs at or close to stoic in many cases.
You are pushing a BRICK down the highway and griping about the engine efficiency?
Try the 3.6 in a streamlined vehicle - you'll get 26-27 mpg with it. Your gripes should be with the thing you chose to drive, now what's powering it. A 3.6 in a WK is a real joy and you can drive a whole lot farther on the same gas. Gee, but it's the same damned engine, so how can that be?

Yet we have 5.7L and 6.4L gladiators... it'll fit fine

Nothing to do with it - no comparison.
A V8 is similar width to a V6 like the 3.6
A V8 is marginally longer front to back than a V6.
A V8 is similar in length to a I4.
An I6 is a lot longer than a V8 or a V6 (especially the V6)

I've been involved in engine swaps in various classic cars for years - If you have the width you can put a V8 where an I6 came from, but you can't always put anI6 where a V8 came from.
In fact, I've seen people have trouble putting a 4.0 where a 196 or 199 came out of (Rambler American, for example)
A friend put a 360 (AMC) in a car a 232 came out of - and his only issue was making the steering shaft from the lower column clear the shorty headers. There was plenty of length.

In other words, length is the issue, not width. A v8 would easily fit. It's hardly any longer than the V6. The I6 is longer than either.

I am wondering if Stellantis is a bit late to the party with this.
While the vast majority of manufacturers moving forward with full blown EVs, they are still developing gassers. There will be a niche market for diehard fans of ICE vehicles, but will the demand be worth it?
Living in my environment where today it is -41C outside, I am definitely not onboard with todays electric technology. In our town of 32,000 people there is a total of 3 accessible EV chargers to the public.
As I sit there for how long to ‘fuel’ up? Pass.
You in Alaska?

Ok, take the measurements on that.

Adding one forward facing cylinder is way different then 3. Y'all can't be that simple.

I bet they could fit it by redesigning the firewall. The original XJs didn’t have the bent firewall to clear i6.

But the XJ was designed for a I6.....not the JTs
