Hey all, what would be the best tire deflator? I won’t be deflating too often — maybe a few times a year.

I have no basis for the thought but valve core removal ones makes me nervous.

What do you all like/prefer?

I have the Staun tire deflators. Had them since 2008. Once you have them set. Just screw them on and do something until the air quits coming out.

I have a Grit Rapid Air Deflator and love it. Ok, it is a bit finicky, but no need to fear. And the gauge is not super accurate, but for the price pretty solid. Do use it a few time before your mates stand behind you and make you nervous. Did read your post and fear, use it a few times and you will see it's nothing crazy.

Btw it is a good idea to have a few spare valves with you anyway. I have had them come in handy a few times. Of course mostly to help others..

I had not aired down before driving in the sand here in Qatar and initially I was nervous about valve removal. Now it's second nature, whipping the valve out and waiting for the escaping air to 'whistle' gets me within 2 psi of where I want to be.

I use speedflate hooked up to all four at a time. One gauge and valve, and all four tires end up at the identical pressure. I use it to air up as well of course, speeding up my fill up by at least double. I like that the valve core stays put. I used to use a valve core back out tool, and never had a problem, but like the accuracy of this better. I certainly wouldn’t buy this if it were only for air down. It’s real value is speed airing up. With my co2 setup, I can air up all four 37’s in one minute.

If you don't mind waiting, the new coyote deflator design will probably be the best one available when it gets released. I use an arb deflator that unscrews the valve stem for faster airing down, but want to switch to the preset screw-on type when the coyote comes out. I air down my trailer too, and it takes a while to pull the valve stems on 6 tires.

Do you have a link that one can read about this new design? When is it to come out?
