Brevity isn't my strong suit, so apologies in advance for the wall of text...

Over the past couple weeks, I've slowly been working on installing the AEV 2" spacer lift on my Mojave in my garage. (I work full time, so I really only had a couple hours here and there to work on it, hence the extended timeframe.) I had my Gladiator in my garage to do the rear spacers first, then when I had that done (after about a week or so), I backed it out and turned it around to work on the front.

Just yesterday, I managed to get the finishing touches on everything, and torqued all the hardware down, torque stripe and all. I go to start it... nothing. All signs point to a dead battery. I figure it's no biggie, and my wife pulls her Wrangler up to give me a jump. The dash lights up, but the starter won't turn over. I just get the usual random assortment of crap that works when your battery is low (wipers moving slowly without being asked to, clicking from the solenoid under the hood, error chimes, etc).

Thankfully it's still under warranty, so I called Jeep Wave, and they set me up with a tow truck to come take it to the local dealership to have it looked at. The tow truck driver showed up with a jump kit, and managed to get it running. He disconnected the jumper, and the truck died almost immediately. So we both agreed to jump it again, then to get it out of the driveway as quick as we could. He advised me he was going to leave the jump kit attached while I rolled out of the driveway, and he just slowly lowered the hood onto it - no problem. I lined the truck up to the back of his tow bed, and he said he would take it from there.

A few hours later, my phone starts blowing up. I don't know exactly what happened yet, but I am assuming he just up and forgot to take the jump kit out from the hood, or he just didn't latch the hood while driving 70mph on an interstate. Either way, the hood went flying backwards and well, the pictures speak for themselves...

The manager of the company spoke with me, and he assured me he will cover everything it costs to repair it, and he was very up-front and professional about everything. I'm just cracking up inside because, through all this, somehow the f*cking windshield still survived... :CWL:

The top of windshield frame doesn’t look damaged and that is a steel hood on the Mojave, perhaps just one catch of the wind at lower speed and it stayed there whole time, still sucks though!….Jack

Yea I'm a little perplexed by that as well. These photos are from the manager; I am going to head out there tonight to take a look at it.

Wow. Bummer to see the damage. Could have been worse though and I can't believe the windshield didn't break!

This happened to me many years ago except I was driving down the freeway at 70. Hit a huge pothole which unlatched my hood and sent it flying up into my windshield. Scared the crap out of me. Luckily I managed (by sticking my head out the window) to get off the freeway without crashing. Filed a claim against the state for the $2k worth of damage. They paid me $300

Good thing it's not a Tacoma, the dealer would have said that seems normal and within factory specs! New hood and paint match being such a new rig should be easy at least

Luckily, they MUST be insured for such things. It's required.

With my condition I would have trouble ripping that guy apart for it - my unhappiness would be reserved for the "so what are you going to do about it".

That sucks, but it eems like you're keeping a good attitude about it. Sh*t happens sometimes, how it gets handled is where to direct the anger if needed. Fortunately, like someone said- Jeeps are like Legos. Bolt on parts are easier to replace than welding and patching a body panel

Yea, the manager has been 100% professional and apologetic about the whole thing. I could be a total ass to him, but what's the point? It's just going to worsen his day, and it's not going to make getting the hood fixed any easier.

My wife and I went to check it out last night, and we figured out why the windshield survived. Because the aux battery was dying/dead, the wipers started moving on their own when we hooked the jump pack up to the truck. They stopped moving in basically a fully upright position (you can see in the pics in the first post). They basically acted like really serendipitous bumpstops when the hood flew open.

I'll be curious if the wipers themselves still work fine, but either way, the windshield thanks them for their sacrifice... :CWL:

Definitely take a pressure washer and a ruler to the top panels. Make sure everything is aligned and straight.

That’s great they seem to be taking care of it, but, I hate it happened to your truck at all. That’s the type of thing that would happen to me. I had a ‘74 CJ5 back in the early 80’s. I had just brought it home from being repainted by the dealer, and put a new set of headers on it when I got it home. Took it down the road to check it out, and I had forgot to latch the hood. It looked almost the same as your hood. I was sick for a week over that.

Update: I was finally scheduled to get the hood, windshield frame, and fender flare fixed at a local body shop tomorrow. I went out to put my freedom panels back on, and guess what - it's dead again!

The new batteries that Jeep put in my truck are dead already, almost a month to the day later.

So now it's being towed to another dealership for yet another warranty battery replacement, and I'm going to miss my body shop appointment that I've been waiting weeks for.

This is getting old real fast.

Sounds like you have a parasitic draw somewhere if you are killing batteries that fast.
