Kind of interesting.
They broke an axle, but the recovery and tow may have exposed a weakness in their aftermarket bumper. Hope they learned from it.

Had to chuckle at Matt having never heard of them ?

I thought it was funny too. Broke both tie rods is what it looked like, not surprised given they're super tiny for the amount of force. Wonder if they also took out the steering rack.

Seems to be a typical failure with the Broncos, those tie rod ends look absurdly undersized.

I had to laugh that Matt hadn't heard of them, that was funny.

Can’t say that I’m surprised. I never heard of them (DV8) until I joined this place.

I doubt if Matt has a lot of time to surf the web lookin for accessories! Subscriber to the Matt's Off Road, Fab Rats and Merlin's Old School Garage channels on the tube.

Super instructional moment here. Soft shackle straight into a hardpoint for a metal D-ring, no radiused or tapered edge. The towed vehicle rolls right and hangs up a rear wheel, so for an instant 100% of the force goes on that shackle alone. That edge cuts through the shackle like butter

I'm sold on synthetic recovery products BUT... that comes with a bunch of caveats about exactly situations like this. If you have unradiused D-ring points, you have to use D-rings. That also goes for all the randos blocking the trail who are going to expect me to rescue them and their DV8 bumper. (Historically my winch gets used more for rescuing others than for myself.) So I gotta carry D-rings to protect my own soft shackles. I try to keep things light but it ain't easy

I love all of them, including the great Rory Irish of Trailmater, but for some reason I have a visceral dislike of Robby Layton.
I kind of had that at first too, but they do some cool things and help out in the community. I like the kids doing their jokes.

Always go to Trailmater first. I'd pay to ride along on one is his recoveries.

I like that aspect too. I jus can’t seem to warm up to him. . .
