I wonder if the Dakota will be built on the JT Chassis? They'll probably still put IFS on it though..
The things I have read so far on it say it will share the JT frame but be IFS, but then I also see things saying it will be based on a revision of the Fiat Toro, so I'm not sure which one is true.

Yeah nice article from 2013 - 5 years later extended cabs and regular cabs are still being built - including the latest models of the mid sized Canyons, Colorados and Tacomas.
True, but try finding many on dealer lots. They're virtually nonexistent.

Also, the standard and extended cabs are often limited to certain trims, or you can't get certain options.

For example, using the Colorado build tool, the only way to get the diesel in an extended cab/long bed configuration is to jump up to the ZR2 trim. Other than that it’s only available in crew cab configurations, and not at all in base or WT trims. I expect the I-6 diesel planned for the 1500 to be similar.

So while they're still available, standard and extended cabs certainly aren't being pushed, even where they aren't intentionally limited.

Also, regular cab trucks hardly get half the incentives of their extended and crew cab brethren.

I still say for those of us who prefer using the space that the wheelbase provides for the truck bed as opposed to the space needed for a crew cab at least build an extended cab. I have an extended cab now and 95% of the time it is me alone in the truck or my wife and I. I use the longer length of my bed all the time. After all this is a Gladiator truck is a truck first and not a glorified station wagon with an open cargo box in the back. It has a body on frame configuration and not uni-body. It will have a decent tow rating and if properly suspended it could a decent payload rating. Don't make this some have-baked, open-air wagon. For example, I think the Honda Ridgeline is just plain silly the bed is so short it is almost square and the payload is nearly worthless. It is simply an open air Honda Pilot.

I say take advantage of the wheelbase and chassis that Jeep has spent a lot of money on developing and producing and maximize the benefit and return on this investment by offering a full range configurations. AT LEAST BUILD AN EXTENDED CAB!

This horse proudly served the in US Army Cavalry out in the western territories back in the 1800s. He was a good and patriotic horse serving his country. Not much is known about his death, but we do know this thread will not stop beating him. RIP

If you really look at it almost all the threads on this forum are nothing more than us beating a dead horse just to keep the conversation going. But why not keep whining about a few hopefuls that want to see a 2 door or an extended cab?

Maybe AEV will create a 2 door conversion that allows 4 door JTs to be converted into an extended cab with longer bed option or go full tilt and shorten the chassis for a SWB JT pickup! LOL!

In all seriousness...if AEV were to tackle it they'd probably do it in a fraction of the time it's taken FCA to lengthen the JT chassis, shorten the JT body tub, and drop a bed on it.

Reactivating this poll....is everyone really going to be okay with just one cab configuration with a 60 inch bed????
