getting ready to add a little bigger tire, gears later in the year. Gladiator is a bare bones base model manual trans. keep reading a lot about these programmers, but I'm a bit confused. looking for the best bang for the buck but at the same time ease of use. willing to spend a little more for ease of use/simplicity. if I'm reading right Jscan and alfa are just the software then I have to source the adaptors, laptop......????? Tazer seems like it's more plug and play????? with my gladiator being so basic is it worth getting the mini or don't waist the money and just get the lite. OR???

Greatest Capability would be AlfaOBD. Similar, but easier to use, would be Jscan. Both require a security bypass cable and OBD dongle to make changes to the truck computer. Tazer connects where the security bypass does. It is a self-contained device, but you are limited to the programming offered by the manufacturer. Tazer Lite is the Tazer Mini with some features disabled. If you go with a Tazer, check the website to see what each one offers. If you don't want any of the 'Live' functions of the Tazer, then Jscan or AlfaOBD is a less expensive solution. Jscan is probably the better choice for many. Some use Jscan to make all the changes before installing the Tazer so that the changes are not lost when the Tazer is removed for Dealer visits..

I've done everything I wanted with JSCAN and/or AlfaOBD.
It's a lot cheaper. You can get by for 100 bucks or so- depending on the Bluetooth adapter you get.
JSCAN or AlfaOBD can be run on your PHONE or a tablet (Android)
AlfaOBD has a PC version for notebook/laptop.

There's so many threads on this hate to repeat it all for the 100th time - but
you need to choose, to decide what your PERSONAL goal is, not what others say you must do because they have done it.
If changing tire size is your goal - why spend hundreds?
If you think you need to do some logging and diagnostics, maybe track misfires, get deeper into what's going on when there are problems, then the software is king.
If you want the life functions of tazer - then you need to go tazer.
If you don't need or want the live functions, you can save money with the software.

Do searches for those terms and you'll find hours of reading with all of the information you could ever want, and a lot you really won't want.

For my 22 Gladiator I started off with Jscan, a bluetooth scanner, security gateway bypass cable, and a z automotive gateway extension cable. Had AlfaOBD been updated then for the 22 models that is what I would have used but at the time Jscan was the best option and was easy to learn. Jscan did everything I wanted to do software wise. Back in November or December I got a great deal on a tazer mini. I love it and leave it connected because of the live features. The tazer will do most of the things I’ve done with Jscan but for me at least it is much more convenient to store that info on my phone.

thanks for the replies, I have been going down this rabbit hole and reading. I'm hoping I'm not going to need to do a whole lot of diagnostics on this thing, as of right now that should be the dealers job. I do have a "BlueDriver" OBD reader that will give me live updates if I need it. currently leaning towards Tazer only because it seems to be the easiest to use, I was mostly asking to see if some one could sway my decision.

after all the rabbit holes i have been down most seem to talk about models that are autos, and more factory buttons, or people that are adding more factory buttons. only factory button i have added is the garage door opener and it's working just fine with out any programmer.

i know some of these subjects have been beat to death, but sometimes they also need to be revisited do to software updates and newer models coming out on the market, again thanks for any and all replies.

Tazer hands down.... went through this with JSCAN and doing dealer "flashes" .... it was very painful. Tazer corrected the issues that both the dealer and the JSCAN couldn't do in 5 minutes.

Forgot to mention. I am friends with the service manager at my local dealer, we had to call on Mopar engineering and they still could not get my 22 Mojave to respond with multiple software flashes. After we figured Mopar engineering either lost interest or could truly not correct some issues. We decided to give the Tazer a try and.... BAM it worked in the dealer parking lot in 5 minutes.

My Gladiator (used) came with a Tazer. I found going through those menus with the controls of the car to be a pia. I got rid of the Tazer and bought JScan and also AlphaOBD. I find JScan is really easy to use. I do have a hard time seeing the options on my phone, that is why I bought AlphaOBD for my laptop.

I just did this last weekend. I went with Jscan after reading between the different tools. I needed to change tire size but was surprised with all the available options to adjust. It's very easy to use and did everything through my smartphone Jscan app.
My total cost was $193.49. That was for the OBD adapter, bypass security cable and license for my VIN in the app.
breakdown:
- VIN app license $23.99
- security bypass cable $16.60

- OBD Link MX+ $152.90 (various adaptors can be used, I went with a higher priced one)

Like a few others, I also use Jscan. Have been using it for 3yrs. Changed gears twice, lockers, and a bunch of other modifications. Good thing about Jscan is that as long as you purchase the licenses, you can use it on other Mopar vehicles. I use Jscan, and the same cables and connector on our JKU, and on parent's Ram, Charger, and caravan.

JScan is really the cheapest option of all of them, if you get the above cheaper ODB adapter that works with it.
JScan License: $25
Security Bypass Cable: $15
iCar Pro OBD Adapter $32
Total: $72
and you don't have to marry and unmarry it. If you buy another Jeep (or Chrysler) you can just buy another license for $25.

People Work?
Here’s another one. Not as many options but simple and easy, and has a gps option. Works great.

+1 on the ECRI.
It can't do all the stuff the Tazer does, but if you're just wanting to get the speedo right and maybe tweak some lighting options, it's simple and easy.
You can also change gearing if you regear at some point in the future.

I have the Auto trans in my JTR. Went from the factory 33s to 315s so about 34.5. Will I really need to get a programmer to change the tire size and what difference will I really see?

so one license and you can connect to all of them or one for each vehicle? my Ram doesn't seem to need it but i did up the tire size a little, but mostly needing it for the JT. the TJ doesn't care.
