Everyone should learn how to change their own oil and rotate their tires if they are physically able. Especially with the decline of basic skills and mechanical aptitude among the people we are producing in the United States. Nobody cares more about your oil change more than you.

I leave my dash cam on when I go in for service. No issues yet. Just keeping them honest.
Ditto. My dashcam (front/rear cameras) runs while the vehicle is not running, too, to minimize potential fuckery.

Dewey in Ankeny texts you a video of the work being done on your Jeep if it's in for WAVE service or oil changes, etc. They show enough you know it's your vehicle. They show the oil draining out, they show the brake check and measuring, stuff like that, so you know they've actually done at least some of what they say.
I wish the dealership i've been going to would do that but they are always so super-busy because they get the work to fix what other Jeep dealerships in our area have screwed up.
They don't even enter the work into the Jeep service tracking pages - I take the receipts from them and enter it myself. AND I keep all receipts.

I used to do a lot more maintenance myself than I do now. I did all the normal ā€˜light maintenance’ including brake pads, rotors, oil changes and things like that. As I have become more vintage, some of those things are a lot more difficult than they used

now I go to an independent shop, better service and I don’t have to worry about a dealer doing lousy maintenance.

Trust me, there are some who should NOT be doing it. I've even worked with a few of them.
There are simply some people who should not be doing some things - if it was possible, then why would there be the stuff we see coming out of Jiffy Lube type places? Hmmm? Some owners will be worse than those places.
If you really believe "everyone should" then I'd not be as busy as I am and there'd be no problem coming out of the quicky lube places.
Doesn't matter how much you care - I've seen the results (and had to fix a whole lot of them)
Heck, some shouldn't even be driving.
This bit that anyone can do anything or be trained to do it is - well, I'll get warned or banned.

Yup. I keep the receipts for my oil and filters. I write the mileage on the filter box and stick it with the receipts into my Jeep binder. I’ve got receipts for $8 eye hooks, Alu-Cab, etc. Not going to be a hard sell that the oil has been changed.

Sounds like me. I've got a big binder with the instructions and receipts for everything I've done with our Jeeps - even the latches I put on the tonneau cover, the bed outlets, wire and more. I've documented every step with photos.
On can type filters, the mileage and date is either painted on with paint pen, or scratched into the filter's paint. I've also got a small pocket size spiral notebook in the console where I write down any time I add any fluid, oil changes, anything that's done, it's written down. I can trace everything done on my car from the time I got it in 2007 including any suspension, brake work, bearings, seals, clutch, whatever. I can document the miles, date and usually have photos.
I guess it's one reason I sold one of my cars sight-unseen several states away without even a whimper on my asking price. I had a copy of every title it's ever had and all repair orders and history of any work done by any prior owners.

Anyone who keeps your kinds of records, an oil change is just part of it all. It would be reasonable to assume you track those things even better.

Yea I get your point. My dad was one that "shouldn't be doing it" lol. Iam definitely not someone that that believes anyone can do anything. The next 10 to 20 years are going to be entertaining ?

Yep. Always take pictures.
I usually get my neighbor, Keith, to help me, and we always take pictures in case we need to prove something to the dealer.
Nothing like having irrefutable photographic evidence!

Apologies to @Quadratec
My fervent hope is that my Jeep will last me as long as he has. . . ?

In the jeep app, you can add oil changes in the history of your vehicle. Add it and find a less shit dealer.
If you can get the jeep app to add a vehicle. When I add mine it just crashes

I'm not allowed to add our JLU 4xe into my garage online or the app. Says I don't have permissions, not the owner, etc. and yet my name is on the title along with my wife's. It says her OR me.
Also next to impossible to REMOVE things you no longer own.
App still needs a ton of work.

I have notes showing date and mileage for every piece of maintenance. I’ve since transcribed all of it into the Jeep app, and will now record there and on my network separately. I don’t trust that an app will exist, or that the data is protected by a third party. I back up my own data, and don’t store anything ā€œonlyā€ on third party servers. But I do like that it’s there. It’ll be the first reference if I ever need to use it. As far as receipts, I get all of them emailed from either AutoZone or Advance. I usually buy three oil changes worth of supplies at a time. Oil stock in the mountains for penzoil full synthetic is often poor. And mopar filters aren’t always in stock. So I get extras when they are.
