Mine is in shop at the moment for the 4th time of the RMS. Has 23000 miles. Called Stellantis to do lemon and they said there is a recall for RMS now. How convenient. Have to have repaired again for them to process under recall. If leaks again Stellantis will process a lemon buy back hopefully
Can you get the RMS recall number? I've had a very small leak since they fixed it that I havent bothered to go back and get fixed again. I'm coming up on the 36K though so I was planning on taking it in, and I'd like to have the recall if possible.

In fairness, I am actually not sure its the RMS again, I think it might be the upper oil pan that they pinched when they fixed the RMS, but if there is a recall maybe I can get it done at the same time.

I will get that as soon as they call me to pick it up.

Is it a recall or a TSB?

Dealership called me and said that they will work on it next week when the engineer is available to help their mechanic

Jeep Gladiator Oil leak - rear main seal it seems IMG_0538

Why would the mechanic need the assistance of an engineer to replace the rear main or oil pan gasket?

I was told recall by JeepWave
They use that term awfully freely, though. A RRT can be called a "recall", too and it's not.
A recall is a recall. Likely it's a RRT - and if that's the case then owners will be notified.

This is awful fishy smelling.

Yuck. Has a Tacoma do that twice In a year. Wasn’t the rear main. It was just a series of shitty Toyota engines getting the oil galley plugs bored bad or marred. Needed shortblocks

Well now I’m being told there isn’t a recall. They looked up incorrectly. Dealer is just replacing rms again!

Not surprised. There's no talk of and nothing out there as far as real recalls for seals.
it's a tricky area to fix properly (and other things can look like the rear main but not be)

I swear that Jeep does this on purpose. I have had several TJ's and this was always an issue. It was something that I learned to just live with.

TJ would have been the "PowerTech" (I4 2.5) or the 4.0
The rear main seal design of the 4.0 as far as I remember, didn't change from 1996 to the end of life for that engine.
And the 4.0 was designed based on the AMC I4 (2.5)

Finally took it in since I'm getting close to the 36k mile warranty and had a small few things I wanted taken care of. Turns out it was a RMS leak, most likely install issue with the last one since it leaked almost immediately after install. Hopefully this one does the trick.
