I bought my 2012 2 Dr Sport in Feb of 2012 for $25K. It was the cheapest JK on the lot. The Cheapest JKU on the lot was $28K. Which is why I didn't get the JKU.

I don't see a date on this Forbes list, but in reading through some of the text, it seems to be published around 2021. So I don't think the post-pandemic automotive fall-out had really took hold yet. Collectibles took off and a RWD car, like the Kia Stinger (#3), never really grabbed the market (2023 is its last year).

How much have things changed? Lexus LFA: "an example in very good, but not necessarily perfect condition should command $558,000-$582,000, and even more as time wears on."

Great LFA examples, like this one, command $1.625M. They regularly sell in the $800K range.

I think if that list was done today, it would look very different. In my opinion.

That being said, I do think the Wrangler and Gladiator would still be on that list. They're timeless.

This is the comment that finally made me want to read the article... holy shit is that a garbage list. Kind of makes me wish people who write these articles are forced to have some skin in the game if someone thinks an LFA is going to be less collectible than a Kia Stinger.

I like the stinger, it was a great car, and now that it's done being made it will disappear into the annals of history as "hey, remember that one time Kia made a fun ICE sedan? What was it called again?"

With modern cars, scarcity is going to be the main driving factor for becoming collectable. Something like the Focus RS will be highly collectable in stock, unmolested form. The Jeep 392 in a limited color and no modifications could become collectable, same with maybe certain diesel gladiator configs, but there are just too many regular wranglers and gladiators to become collectable.
