Well now I am more mad than ever. Gave the shop a call just to check status so I can plan my day and apparently the tech who was supposed to work on it threw a massive fit and had to have a discussion by the manager. So of course, since I was a tech and know how things work, am worried that the Jeep will be mistreated, jumped, floored, or items stolen, or new scratches. So I will be talking with the manager and am no longer trusting of them. I never trusted the shop anyway since I know how dishonest people are and how the treat customer vehicles. This is insane...... To top it off they can't even give me a update on what is going on or if the work has even started.

Starting to wish I never bought a new car and just fixed my TJ up instead. In today's world I simply do not trust anyone to do good quality honest fair work because in the last 3 years I have, at least in my area, not seen good honest work. Everyone seems to half-ass everything and take advantage of customers left and right.

Not happy. @JeepCares - what do you have to say about technicians purposefully mistreating customer vehicles should this happen? I should have put a camera in it before taking it to the shop.
This SUCKS man! Can you go to the dealership and walk around back to see if your truck is sitting outside or is taking up space inside? I'd be in that place to get a visual, then have a sit down with the Service Manager and then decide if your next move is to make an appointment with the GM.

If your truck is drivable, get it home and top up the fluids and make some other decisions!

It's not easy for me to do that. It's an hour one way plus I have to find someone willing to take me. I will definitely be meeting with the manager. I just wish I had a camera with eyes on it. I know how techs treat vehicles. The problem is theres no way to prove the tech drove it 100 on the highway and jumped a curb if that happened(s). Which I honestly dont doubt for a second considering what I saw other tech do when I worked at Ford. Or if the tech decides to put red locktite on every single bolt and hammers them home with the impact.... That kinda stuff won't be known unless things have to be taken apart again. I have personally witnessed techs do that in the past and dont doubt a pissed off one would be tempted to do it again.

Well to no surprise they effectively screwed up my entire weekend. I purposefully took the last two days off of work while good ol dad was visiting for my 40th yesterday to get this work done so that we could go to the woods this weekend and celebrate, maybe do some hunting. But their incompetencies now completely ruined my weekend, made taking vacation totally pointless as I literally sat waiting with no vehicle to go to the woods (dad's truck is not capable). So now I have to take more vacation time to get it next week and miss some very important work meetings that I'm not supposed to miss. These guys are so screwed up it's not even funny and almost has me considering selling the jeep to just not even deal with a new vehicle anymore that requires a Jeep shop to fix. What happens if/when theres a more major breakdown! So the story goes, the technician didn't have the right tools to remove the drive shaft bolts. When questioning this, they said it was some special star type (not inverted) Torx bit. I call total BS and think they just effed something up and are trying to cover for it. I mean seriously who at Jeep does not have the right tool to remove a freaking drive shaft!? To piss me off even more they forgot, again for the 100th time, that I live an hour away. And when complaining about spending the extra money during purchase specifically for a loaner program because of where I live, they just said 'oh man sorry, well we can fill your gas tank'. I appreciate that but filling my gas tank doesn't cover taking half a day of leave and causing a pretty huge inconvenience to work stuff. Just unbelievable. At least they gave me a call but I had suspicions from day one. This just goes to prove my point in today's competencies.

Drive shafts are commonly serviced items - either for the joints, or pinion seals or transfer case output seals and so on. I bet without looking I have the tool to remove the bolts. I'd bet on it..
Shocking that their excuse is the inability to take the drive shafts out due to lack of a tool. I can recall that for certain certifications and the ability to do warranty work for certain companies, you had to own a set of tools they specified.

For bolts, I know Craftsman has a socket that will fit hex, square, bolts like these and others.
These bolts became common in the 1980s but few could deal with them back then -

Exactly my point - so something is up. I hardly believe this is the first driveshaft the shop has removed - especially for their 'senior technician' who I was told was handed this job due to the internal conflict. Seems like I'm getting screwed in some way. I am willing to bet something happened, or someone screwed up and they are working through the weekend to try and fix it. I can hardly believe that a senior tech, or the entire shop for that matter, doesn't have the right tool to remove a drive shaft. I really wish I would have canceled and put a camera in because something smells very fishy.

Also - still no response from @JeepCares either here or the PM I had going from a while ago.

PHEV only, but it took me getting a bit firm, and multiple trips, pulling in my sales guy (who sold us our most recent Jeeps and must be eating well to this day) - he pulled in the service manager who worked with me looking things over. I gave him the complete history, he had no idea it had been in before - twice - for the same thing. He ordered a transmission just in case but wants to try one more thing first after himself finding two bulletins on this very exact leak AND he called a district guy and started asking him about the transmission leak. That rep was aware and talked to him about the two possible causes.

He's even going to pick up the Jeep, do their thing, bring it back and my wife gets a loaner for the weekend. And if this next thing doesn't fix it, they'll pick it up again when the transmission comes in and take care of it. He even offered a tank of gas for our troubles.

Don't give up - getting to the right people with the right information can work.
I sent the SM a bullet point email with the miles, dates, what was done, time between finding the leaks, the types of drives it took to expose the leaks, and it all fits like a glove to some of the stuff he found.

Keep at it - get JC involved, a case number, and be polite, to the point, a bullet point list outlining things. In our case, it took getting the Jeep totally warmed up, and the transmission actually hot - more than cruising around town. No shop test drive would ever force a leak like we had. It took a hard highway drive of 25 miles each way to make it leak again.

Shoulda posted this here. I will try and delete the other thread.

Anyone have an idea what goes or used to go here. Passenger side inside frame forward of tran/transfer main support.

it is possible it is something I removed when installing the skid plates but I kinda doubt it. I dont see anything dangling indicating something is gone but its dark and hard to see.

I see a part of what should be here. Definately not something I removed during install of skid plates. But the question stands what is it holding up?

i think its a bracket to protect the fuel lines. Awesome. Im suposed to go on a trip this weekend too. Hey Benny @AllMoparParts.com could you shoot me a part number and price? Im more than willing to bet the tech just tossed it and its gone forever. Dont really want to drive too far with exposed fuel lines.

This repair process has been a nightmire. Any more warranty work and I am gonna consider selling the JT. It should not be this hard….. also, trans support bolts were installed backwards and misaligned on the drivers side.

I do have JC involved and will be starting a case number to document.

So picked up the jeep today. Finally. Day 6 of what should have been a 3 hour job according to initial information from service (probably is really a 6 hour job). Anyway, the whole process has been insane. Kept getting pushed back - a day here, a hour there, internal conflicts, and even techs that didnt have the right tools - fancy that. I got home and inspected right away - should have inspected in the parking lot but I was irritated and in a hurry. Note the two posts above about the missing fuel line protector. Also, multiple bolts and nuts/washers are no longer in their original location. At least they didnt, that I know of, destroy one of the welded nuts for the skid plate. I get that, things move; however, this just goes to show how today's workforce is really bad. Contractors that have done work on my house have made even worse decisions. Maybe the area I live in just is full of a bunch of people who dont care. But I bet they care when they get treated this way. But this is partly why our nation is in such turmoil - very little true care for craftsmanship these days.

I only hope this does not leak again. I can see where the transfer was split in 2 for the seal replacement and new RTV in place so now that's a new leak point potential. Not to mention the tech initially 'put it back together wrong'. Maybe just poor wording choice from the assistant manager. The shop manger himself did seem rather upset on this whole ordeal too though. We'lll see how things progress in the future.

I am so tired of this shop, rather just people and their poor work quality in general, and that goes for most places these days it seems. Its exhausting.

So picked up the gas line protector last week since I was in town. They gave me two bolts. I was pretty sure at that moment i need a bolt and nut but was in a hurry and didnt want to stay there any longer than necessary.

Well long story short sure enough they couldn't even provide me with the correct parts they removed to put this thing back on.

Anyone know what size thread this is so I can just maybe get a stainless nut and washer at my local hardware store tomorrow?
