Noob here, just bought my first Jeep - 2021 JTR. Bought it from Carmax, and they didn't have a complete/reliable list of included features/options. Whenever I turn the Jeep off, I see this green light fast-blinking (see attachment). After it's been off a while, the same green light blinks slower, maybe once every 1.5 seconds. I thought it must be a security system, but that section of the manual does not describe a green light. Anyone know what this is?

Can you get a better picture of it? The green light kind of washes out whatever the it is. I’m thinking it is likely a trailer brake controller.

That looks aftermarket, it could be a number of things. Can you take a picture of what the light is attached to? There should be a small module there that the green light is coming from.

Here are two more pics. The cable disappears into the depths of the center console, can't tell where exactly.

@spatters Could be a tracker. Most car rental places, and some dealers will put those on rented/leased cars and forget to take them off before they’re sold.
At any rate, I’d try to take it off the mount and see if there is any wording, print or model number you can google. That’ll be the quickest way to know for sure.

I bought a used Grand Cherokee and it had a similar device. It was a tracker. I traced wiring to a few different places and when I got to the cut wires and splices, I realized I couldn't just remove the tracker without repairing the factory wiring. It is still on the to do list. My green light is also a push button switch. I push it all of the time just to see if I get a visit.

Just unplug the connection on the back of the device, take the device out of the JT, put it in a Faraday pouch, bury it 5 feet in ground with a layer of aluminum foil every 18".
Don't forget sheets of lead lining the hole you dig.

OK it's out. Looks like a KARR PL884-200 tracker. Dealerships commonly install them anti-theft and possible for remote shutdown in default situations. Some also attempt to charge people for them as a security system upgrade, but Carmax didn't. Everythign seems to work fine with it out.

It was easy to unplug the device from the cable, but I'm hoping there's no need to go all the way into the guts of the dash to remove the wiring harness.

Tangentially related story, but when we bought my wife's Honda they proudly stated that every car they sell had LoJack installed on them for free. At the time I was like "Oh that's nice" but in hindsight I realized it was probably so they could track cars for repo if they ever went delinquent on payments. ?

It was a big, nice dealership, and not a buy here pay here place!
