It's one of the tracking devices that they sell subscriptions for. They usually include a phone app and web access to keep track of the vehicle. Mine included something similar, that came with a three year paid subscription. I pay for SiriusXM Guardian, which includes similar features, so I didn't renew it. The device is only 3G, so a renewal would have also required an upgrade that I would have had to pay for.OK it's out. Looks like a KARR PL884-200 tracker. Dealerships commonly install them anti-theft and possible for remote shutdown in default situations. Some also attempt to charge people for them as a security system upgrade, but Carmax didn't. Everythign seems to work fine with it out.
It was easy to unplug the device from the cable, but I'm hoping there's no need to go all the way into the guts of the dash to remove the wiring harness.
