I bought my 2021 Mojave used about 3 months ago. I estimate I put 3k miles on it. Last Friday the Oil Change Required light came on, I’ve been monitoring the oil life so I knew it was time. Anyway, today was the day I already planned to do the oil change. On my way to work the check engine light came on. F&$k! Just what I need.

Bought oil and filter and had Autozone run the code. Engine misfire code (paperwork is in the truck or if put the actually code number).

When I got home I performed the oil change and went to inspect the air filter. The screws were all mostly out. WTF! I loosened them enough to lift the housing and no air filter!

I have a few questions. What damage could have been done? Is the misfire code possible due to a few thousand miles with no filter (I will say it’s been all highway so far)? This was certified used, I had no reason to check the air filter until my first maintenance but I learned my lesson. I plan to call the dealership tomorrow and chew them out but what ground do I have to stand on?

anyway, I’m pissed

Take it in for service ASAP. Be pissed about the fact that it had no filter, let them know.

The potential damage has many variables. Have you driven through sand storms? Off road? It could be a dirty MAF sensor, a clunk of gunked up dirt in the valves, valves that sand blasted themselves out of spec, the possibilities are endless really - it could also be 100% unrelated and nothing comes of it.

So you bought it used? Was it from a dealership that sells new cars as well? In Oregon if a dealership sells new cars, they must do the 300ish point inspection on used vehicles before they sell. I would not change your oil yet as you serviced your vehicle and they could put the blame on you.

they sell new as well in North Carolina. It is certified used. They 1000% should have performed a multi point inspection. They obviously didn’t. I’m so pissed.

Yeah I would be nice about it but make a big stink on the situation.

In fact, it’s not the first time they f upped. We bought my wife’s Wrangler new from them. Took it in for a recall and we were left stranded on the side of the road because they forgot to reattach the coolant lines.

we said we were never going to purchase from them again but we still had 3 free oil changes to use up for her Jeep. We were walking around the lot and saw my Jeep and it was actually a pretty good deal. We caved. Last time.

Thats what we call Amateur Hour. Never trust an amateur’s work, even if its free oil changes

You should be receiving emails after every service, even the free Jeep Wave Oil Changes. Check your emails and give it to them. If that doesn't pan out, I'm sure you can find the emails of some top Stellantis heads on Google

In fact, and I’m kicking myself on the ass right now, when we walked up to my Jeep with the salesman I pointed to the tire and said there is a screw in it. So they had to fix that. Then on the test drive the rear locker light started flashing. Salesman had no clue. Service people were gone for the night. Light stayed on. They fixed it a few days later.

I guess I’m the sucker.

They don’t do much in terms of punishing the franchise that anyone of us can tell, but you can contact @JeepCares and open a support case.

Well, I’m going to be raising hell tomorrow. And it is the very last time I ever go to this dealership for anything.

Hate to say it, but things like this is a common theme. Seems like the majority of dealers out there are incompetent.
