So I had my HPFP replaced almost 10 days ago. Today while looking at something entirely different on my Jeep I noticed some oil (I think) drips. I started to chase down the source and came upon the hose (brass crimp) in the picture. This hose is under the air intake box and in front of the steering pump on the drivers side. The oil is black and consistent with engine oil but I'm not positive. I followed it the best I could and it travels down to the front of the engine compartment and runs across and under the radiators as a steel tube. On the passenger side of radiators it turns and heads back up into the engine compartment and I can't follow it without taking a bunch of stuff out.

My question is, what is this line for? Is it engine oil or something else? I'd like to track down a diagram of this line system to see where it goes. I want to do my homework before calling the dealership and accusing them of causing this. I'm sure they won't take responsibility anyway.

Just a little coincidence that the service techs would have been working in this area to get at the HPFP. Is it possible they could have gotten clumsy and damaged this line?

I'm not noticing any engine oil or power steering fluid loss at this point but I think this just started very recently.

Did they do an oil change at the same time? The only reason I ask is it totally blows my mind how they can get oil everywhere when the change the filter…..

Finger check isn’t doing the trick to tell the difference between motor oil and power steering fluid? That line should be for power steering- can’t think of any oil lines on the 3.0.

No to the oil change.
It's possible to be power steering hose, but can't see where the line originates. That would make sense though being that the reservoir is on the passenger side.
