Yes gravel roads are every day. and dirt roads every couple of weeks.

I know I need seat covers... I have a horse lol... what is the best kind for heated seats? Does it matter?

Other than that, I have a lot to learn... when/where/will I ever use the off road/sway bar option on the center console- when towing or just over rocks? The red too? I don't think I can go on the Rubicon without a lift and bigger tires, but I think I could find somewhere else to learn! Since I have the capability I may as well learn how to use it :) Any ideas on where to go for that are appreciated :)
Depending on where you are at in Cali, East San Diego county has some great trails to ride. There is a Jeep club there also that does rides fairly often.

No rush but at some point you may want to change the vehicle listed on your profile

Well! They have a training on the Rubicon in October and it looks like my new one qualifies!

NOTE: The Rubicon Trail event requires Jeep Wrangler RUBICON and/or Jeep Gladiator RUBICON models only OR front & rear lockers, sway bar disconnects, skid plates & rock rails for other Wrangler or Gladiator models. Jeep Renegade, Jeep Compass, Jeep Cherokee and/or Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles will not be permitted on the Rubicon Trail event.

It might, but having done the rubicon trail, you might want to consider at least some added protection. If they’re doing a small subsection of the trail for training, that’s one thing. But the entire trail in a stock gladiator rubicon would be something else entirely. I’m genuinely not trying to discourage you. I say go for it. But I recommend reading some threads about gladiators on this trail. I did it heavily armored, on 37” tires, and with a significant lift. I scraped and scratched pretty much everything but body paint. I drove home 15 hours and wouldn’t change it for the world. But I personally wouldn’t do that trail n a stock gladiator.

I’d actually very much like to hear more details about this. Is it being put on by jeep jamboree?

Jeep Adventure Academy. I would guess they wouldn't take new people on the entire trail, but I will certainly ask for details before I sign up. I had thought before that I would need bigger tires and a lift before I do something like the Rubicon so you may be totally right!

This is a basic guide on off roading tips they had:

I looked again:

This is an entry level off-road event designed to build confidence and the foundation of off-roading. Open to all* Jeep® Brand vehicles – with Trail Rating, every Jeep® vehicle is engineered to go off road.

The Jeep® Adventure Academy will be taught with world class instruction from the experts at Jeep Jamboree – leaders in off road adventure since 1953.

Keep in mind that if you go to larger tires & lift, you are reducing your towing capacity, which seemed to be your main driving concern when you started out.
After all the agony you went through with this Jeep purchase, I hate you see you defeat your purpose that started this whole thing.

Just a thought.

Yes, I remember! But it appears that I won't have to do that with this entry level training, but I will double check for certain before signing up :)

If I am not mistaken, those are designed for beginners and only do a certain portion of the trail they offer them at.

Like others have mentioned, take some time with it stock before making the jump into building it out. I previously had a wrangler that I bought used and was already lifted and on 37’s. But it was a sport and had the stock Dana 30 in the front and stock 3.73 gearing, and it was a 2010 with the 3.8 liter engine and 5 speed auto. It was not built right, and I had to basically re-do the Jeep, which was fine since I can do most things myself. I bought my 2020 JTR and only did small mods starting out, 35’s, winch, lights. 3 years later and the wrangler gone, I have now lifted it and just went to 37’s. But I know that this will now be a continuously evolving build, weak points have now changed and stock items will wear out faster and need replaced sooner. I also made several trips to my local off-roading trails to see how it handled stock, I have scrapes and dings and dents on the bottom, so for me a lift was needed.

I do not tow anything heavy, my boat at 3300lbs is the heaviest, so I am comfortable with the lift and towing that weight.

If you are interested in learning more about your JTR, those Jeep Jamboree trail events seem like a good option.

I’m very excited to hear that you’re going to wheel that new toy. It’s SO much fun.
