that's correct. u gotta stretch the truth and declare you aint dailying it, etc. but hagertys isn't the only one either. there's 2 more i just don't remember which.

edit:

  • Hagerty
  • J.C. Taylor
  • Condon Skelly
  • Grundy
  • American National
these guys are all in the biz. most of them are NOT vehicle insurance. They are declared value insurance. you still must have a normal policy.

Haggerty doesn't cover the Gladiator or at least that is what I was told. They told me it was too new of a vehicle to be covered.
they don't, your only going to them for declared value insurance. IE my hemi swapped gladiator is worth X amount. IF its gets totalled, pay me the X amount minus what other parties compensate me for. Its not normal insurance. and you can't really do it to a mechanically stock new vehicle. If you do enough to it to and declare its a "show truck". now its a different story.

Again, I stand by my original statement that they do not do that with new vehicles. On top of that Hagerty does not insure daily drivers vehicles and will not cover anything that goes off-road. I have two other vehicles insured with them and both of them have yearly mileage limitations on them. Unless you can show proof otherwise.

hmm. its what i was recommended. i wonder if its region specific? I haven't moved forward with them cus no 392 yet. but they sounded like they could do it when i called. theres other options tho if they say no. others say go with an insurance broker that can customize your policy for you. i may just do that.

I've only done it directly through Hagerty. Insurance Broker may work better for you. Having two cars already insurance with them they will not insure a daily driver as you have to put a mileage limit on the policy and when I insured my 88 Samurai with them for a Guaranteed Value I had to state over and over again that I would not be driving it off-road at all and even then the person almost didn't want to do it because it was lifted and modified for off-roading so there is that as well but the policies are cheap and once they are insured I have not had an issue with them but I have also never had to make a claim so I can't speak to that part but I have had several cars insured with them.

I just to the guy i was sent. he didn't work directly for hagerty. so you were right. He is a broker and said that he could definitely find a policy to cover additional value to supplement normal insurance. I'll come back after i move forward with the 392 and share all the details and coverages.

Thanks, I am sure others would appreciate it myself included. I am still trying to find additional coverage as well as a policy that covers for off-road. My current provider said if it was just basic off-roading on a trail it would be covered but if it was rock crawling or extreme off-roading it would not be. Not sure where they would draw the line though.

i believe the line is as i have been explained too by others. official trails and fireroads, like stuff within national forest and whatnot are covered. BLM land or trail blazing is not. that what i've been told by a guy who totaled his jeep on a trail. because it was on a official Jeep Honor badge trail, it was covered. personally i would just lie and say it was on road. they can only see it at the collision center i towed it too, and i don't file police reports unless another party was involved.

What if you don't have itemized receipts of the parts? Purchased used with mods and progressive is giving me $1k but option to purchase extra $5k of coverage, but need to call agent and can't add online. XRC front/rear bumper w/ Smittybilt winch, MT Baja Boss 35s, 18in Fuel Rebel Bronze wheels, Teraflex 2.5in lift coils, sway bar links... basic stuff but surely adds up.

Hi, like most of you, I have a multitude of parts and upgrades on my JT. I recently reached out to USAA my insurer with the hope of getting additional coverage after clarifying that USAA would only cover parts that were OEM and not anything beyond that. I have been with USAA for about 30 years and have multiple vehicles and other policies with them but may consider leaving them. Insurance has gotten extremely expensive in all policies and wondering what you are all seeing.

I suppose it's one thing to have to replace a light bar or puddle lights but if you are driving an AMW swap or something with 10s of thousands in parts and not having adequate coverage it could become an issue.

Just reaching out to the community to see if this is something common or other insurers offer? Do you suck it up and hope you never get in an accident (?).
This is odd, I have USAA and can purchase "Accessory coverage" - at least I used to be able to. Sounds like I need to give them a call.

Edit: Oh, that was for my motorcycles and USAA farmed that out to Progressive. If USAA doesn't cover my lift, wheels or other accessories I'm going shopping for another provider -and probably moving my banking and home insurance at the same time.

I had a rather long phone conversation with one of the agents when I switched to them 3ish years ago because he himself was a Jeeper. Pretty much I was told that aftermarket parts if damaged in an accident, so long as it's within a reasonable cost of the OEM parts to perform the repair, were fully covered. Now if damaged offroading you're SOL, but that should be expected.

I'm going to reach out tomorrow and double check, we have two Jeeps with Metalcloak suspension and one has King shocks. If those parts aren't covered I'm going to another company immediately.

USAA covers $5,000 in non-OE parts - which is easy to blow right past with a good suspension kit and wheels. Add in a winch, synthetic line, sliders, skids, and performance shocks and most of us would probably easily double that - and maybe double it again if we have a shop do the work.

I spoke to them about increasing that coverage, but was told they do not offer anything above that $5,000 - it would be a "negotiation" with the adjuster to get the parts covered, and I've been down that road before, it never ends well for the vehicle owner.

So I'm now in the market for a new insurance company; probably moving my home insurance, motorcycles, and banking while I'm at it.
