The quotes I have from a local shop are about the same for 35”, 1.5” lift plus full motobilt belly plates vs. 37”, 3” lift, no belly plates. I asked for this thinking maybe I don’t “need” belly plates with 37s and 3” lift. Maybe that’s a faulty idea?
I have 37s with 3.5 inch lift and I hardly ever touch the belly

I’m an inch higher than that with Asfir aluminum front to back and I still touch. Just depends on what your definition of off road is. It’s different for everyone.

I do have a sport with max tow. So, 4.10 gears. Local shop here in TX says it might be OK. They suggest drive it and regear at if you feel too much power is lost.

I have stock OS spec JT Rubi on 33's
I scrape the belly sometimes with the OEM skids and I am so glad they are there
IMHO I would belly plate before bigger tyres
Jeep Gladiator 35” vs. 37” tires and belly scraping 1708399591158

The lift will raise you up for more space for bigger tyres, cool, but consider it like a triangle, as the wheelbase is so long the breakover angle doesn't greatly increase with lift so you will likely still belly scrape in many situations
Just a thought

I went straight to clayton 2.5" lift (3" exteme duty rear springs) and 37s with stock Rubicon skids. Also rockhard sliders and haven't had any problem. I hit the diff a few times so I'll be getting skids for that. But full under armor will wait as they're not my priority. I've regeared to 5.13 and have 2.5 ton steering upgrade ready to be installed. If you're getting into serious rock crawling, you're going to need the larger lift, tires and full skid. Otherwise, go with the larger lift and tire combo. Then add skids as needed. There's lots to buy. Don't forget about a nice air up system for the larger tires too.

Cause 3.73 gearing (on a sport non max tow) is going to suck with 37s.
Hmm, I must not have gotten that memo, I don’t have an issue with 37s and 3.73s ?‍♂

Yup. You must have missed it. OP is on a gasser. And 3.73 on a gasser going up hill with 37s is a dog.
Yeah just double checked and didn’t see engine type in any of his posts, but I’ll take your word for it ??

btw, you didn’t happen to sell Hondas in Loma Linda, did you?

It's in his sig. But he's on 4.10s. So it should be ok. Nope, completely different business.

Sig doesn’t show up on my phone.

I have the Clayton 3.5" lift with 37" tires.

All in terms of what I hit the most on the boulders ---

Rear control arm skids and rear diff skid are hit the most. It is much easier to place the front tires on the boulders than it is the rear -- which are so far back and you usually have to turn.. .. lol..

then, front control arm skids, front diff skid, and finally engine, tranny, transfer case skid last.

I would get them all, but, here is the order of how often I am touching up the paint on all my skid plates.

PS. Also, all mine are Steel, and I am glad I went with that material. Much less denting and deforming. You can see the build link in my signature for more skids info.

Honestly you're gonna scrape with both it's just how much you want to hear and feel.

Second thing to factor in is how often do you want to get actually hung up enoug and get stopped on the trail. As in needing to be winched off and obstacle.
