Current project I am finishing up as the garage warms up.
Nice work. I dig the body design. What kind of wood is the neck?

I now do not feel so bad about my bench getting to messy.

Fretboard is bocote and maple is the body of it. Next step will be learning to play a guitar.

Honestly, the oil change on the JT is the easiest of any vehicle I've ever owned. Cake.
Completely agree with this. Especially a lifted one as you can just slide underneath. The issue is that many folks who are new to working on their own rigs and aren't familiar with wrenching on their vehicles are often intimidated by it, or think they'll mess up their rig if they do it themselves. My hope is that this video will allay those concerns and encourage others to get to know their rigs better. It is super simple!

This is really for anyone new to owning a JT that wants a quick video tutorial on changing out your own oil. It is really simple to do and there are two main benefits:

1. You get to know your JT better.
2. It can save you both time and money.

In this short video I walk you through the simplicity of the oil and filter change. Hope this is helpful for anyone brand new to the Gladiator that is considering doing it for the first time. ~ Eric
Very easy to follow. This is great for a beginner to let them get used to saving money and knowing what to do.

That's the hope. That folks who are concerned about wrenching on their own vehicle either because they are new, or for some reason intimidated by the idea will see the simplicity of this maintenance, take the initiative and familiarize themselves with their rig a little more. It truly is an easy process and something every Jeeper should be familiar with.

Let me add to the list.

Forget to open the plug in your catch basin, realize OH CRAP I forgot and it is almost over filled. Quick dunk your hand into the hot oil to open the plug and the air vent barely averting a Exxon Valdez moment on your garage floor!

You would think I hadn't been doing this for over a decade.

I watched a lot of videos when I had my first one and was scared to do stuff. It the more you do the more comfortable you will get. This is an easy service that can save you $50+ a change (in my area).

I've done a lift, front bumper/winch, fender chop, and a few other mods but have not done an oil change myself yet. I'm getting to it soon (maybe tomorrow). So we don't need replaceable crush washers with these?

No crush washer is use with this drain plug. It has its own rubber gasket as part of the plug.

Not mentioned yet is the importance of NOT over tightening the plastic oil filter cap to the housing as these can crack. But the good thing about doing this yourself is that you can control the amount of force used to tighten (which is just snug) and not an inexperienced Jiffy Lube Express worker that has no knowledge of this design. Just think of the effort to loosen and do the opposite when reinstalling. Easy-peasy.

I always encourage anyone to learn about their JT (from the bottom up) and get up close and personal with each aspect of the vehicle. :)

Edit: I always go with the Mopar M0-349 oil filter (part #68191349AC) and 5 qts. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20.

Yup.

And it's not just these - I've run into spin-on oil filters that were so danged bloody tight I had to destroy them to get them off.
Totally not needed! Oil the rubber seal. Rubber seal makes contact, limit to about 1/2 turn after that, DO NOT USE A FILTER WRENCH on those spin-on filters used on most other vehicles.
So i can just imagine what happens at a quicky-change place on these filter housings. No need to do that - it's a rubber seal and it works fine without Magilla Gorilla forces. (rats, that ages me!)

Out of curiosity, do you not crack the oil filler cap prior to draining? I’ve always been taught that will help oil drain quicker.

I do, I don't want to create a vacuum which could impact draining. Is it needed? Not sure, but I have open the cap anyway. I open the hood, open the fill cap, sit it over the radiator and start the oil drain. In addition next time I am cracking the oil filter right after opening the drain. It does seem to hold oil in there. After 2 hours sitting draining, I cracked the filter open and heard oil rush into the pan.

Thanks. Sometimes I'd have to go to several auto parts stores to find the right size washers. This'll save me some time.

I mention specifically the issue of not overtightening in the video. So many folks make that mistake.
