YES, BUT, if you note, they almost always have the word "negotiable" next to them... I negotiated down to 200 bucks...
Highly state dependant. In some states it would be against the law for dealers to charge different customers different doc fee amounts without some express agreement in place (for example A, Z, and X plans through Ford can have a reduced doc fee, but the reduced number cannot be negotiated in said states)

I’m not really in the market for a new car but at some point we will need an additional one as we only have a single car. It’s a relatively base model gladiator sport with auto trans.

$47,280 is the msrp and the selling price is $31,700 putting me at a ~33% discount. They are adding the costs of bedliner and tints but I wanted those anyways so keeping it separate.

let me know your thoughts. Still trying to haggle those m items out so will report back if additional savings are to be had.

Listen, I'm being a bit harsh, but I can tell you are not very experienced at buying vehicles. Here is a good deal using 40 years of experience and having gotten screwed like you young thinking I got a good deal... Here is a good deal. The lower right "special package..." yeah right... I went non-protected and got a great rate for these days.

Oh, extended warranty? Somewhere on the forum is a dealer named Grainger who sells extended warranties at not a lot more than what they get charged. That's another place dealers make money. They sell you a Chrysler extended warranty at 4,000 bucks they paid a thousand for. But if you contact granger and a few others out there, they will sell you the identical 4000 buck extended warranty for like 1500 bucks protecting your care with like a three year 36K coverage for 75K to 100K miles. with a few hundred difference. Oh, remember, it is business. You HAVE to let the dealer make some money someplace. The key is knowing WHERE in the deal they are making money. It is in numerous places... financing, extended warranties,, trade in value, fees, price of the car etc.

I was offered a thousand more trade in for my Renegade I traded in that was a 2018 deal that NEEDED new brakes, was having electrical/Uconnect issues and had a badly cracked windshield... So, I didn't argue on the 1500 bucks less trade equity. I was going to have to spend that anyway on the car if I kept it. So, you gotta look at the whole picture of the deal to really get a deal. This website is a free .net calculator that can help you figure things out. https://www.calculator.net/auto-loan-calculator.html There are some good YouTube videos on all the dealership tricks and how you can deal with it also. Hey its money and is better in your pocket than theirs.

Yes, I agree you're being rude. I sold cars for many years. I have tons of experience in car deals. and have bought in 3 states and sold in 2. I've bought about a dozen cars for myself, sold a few hundred. also bought another 5 for my mother where i negotiate the deal and she just shows up and writes the check and did the same for my brother and sister once each as well.

You just posted a deal that amounts to 30% off MSRP with a $200 doc fee
OP posted what amounts to 30% off MSRP with a $1000 doc fee.

Please explain to me how regional differences (and legal differences between states) in documentation fees that i understand better than you do makes me "very inexperienced at buying vehicles".

I said harsh, not rude. On the surface it appears decent, but am I wrong on how dealers make their money? You don't know my past. And if you note, I am very familiar how state laws are different so don't assume what I do or don't know. I will drive 500 miles for a deal. For example, in Washington State, they no longer allow dealers to put a percentage "buy rate" on top of the "dealers rate" for loans. And if you note I said "almost always" in my discussion of fees. I am aware that different states have different laws. I am glad to see someone asking and doing their "due diligence" before signing. And I wasn't even talking to you...

I wish someone had told me about how it all worked before I bought my first car 40 years ago... I have a really unethical jeep dealer here where I live and see people screwed by them.

All I am saying is KNOW how the process works. It is a business, not good nor bad nor right nor wrong. But, If you do not understand how that business works, then the other side can take advantage of your ignorance and in the car selling world there are many many ways to do so. I pointed out a few. When I see a "deal" with a thousand buck doc fee, I get very very suspicious and you know that is ridiculous. A few others did also I notice... If they are going to try to get you there, then where else are they going to try and suddenly your deal that looks good on the surface can be eaten away piecemeal. Take a thousand off trade in value, get a thousand on doc fees, get another thousand on dealer "accessories" like tinting overpriced bed lining and etching windows, and undercoatings, and flashing lights etc., sell you an extended warranty at three times the price and And all of a sudden your deal is not nearly as good as you thought. AND, if you do not understand how it all works, you get screwed and don't even realize it.

So, good on this guy for protecting himself and like I said, I was being harsh and acknowledged it as a form of apology with a reason why... but he doesn't know me and if he doesn't allow his ego to get involved it's good advice... I wasn't even talking to you and you got your ego involved. I also pointed him to where he could find out more information and linked him a tool that isn't connected to any profit making entity.

Oh, and I see it is used. My advice was irrespective of that and still applies.

Every dealer in the US has a doc fee. You paid one too.
Yes, I plaid a doc fee. BUT, it wasn't $995. Here is what my Gladiator was when I purchased it in October 2023.

My window tint is just fine OEM.
Factory privacy glass is good to keep peeping eyes out of your truck, but if you are looking for protection from heat and UV light, ceramic tint is you way to go. I paid $350 for a high quality ceramic on my Jeep back in 2022... the same shop with a friends and family discount is now $450.00, I don't think the price the dealer is charging is too out of pocket unless they are using a lesser quality film.

Does it help on cracks? But actually doesn't sound all that bad.

I did find a site that did note that Florida avg doc fee is like 950 bucks. You definitely had a point... One thing I have noticed however is that Florida also has some of the best deals on Jeeps in the country as an observation over time. Here is a new Sport S with a 52ish K

I'm explicitly sorry for how I initially responded... I'm retired have lots of time on my hands and we still have lots o inches of snow on the ground. I have cabin fever as an excuse. I did see that the doc fees in Florida are in the 950 range as an average so that took my breath away and the other guy was right on that. You are in Florida right? But, your registration isn't bad as in about half my 650 bucks so I guess a lot of it evens out. But as I noted to someone else, Florida seems to have good prices on Jeeps as a general rule. I see a NEW one In Hollywood on cargurus that is a Sport S so a level up from the one I believe you asked about. It has a 51 and change MSRP for 35K. I'm seeing a NEW almost 48K MSRP Sport for 30,750 in Miami. Do that Cargurus search on a new one and put in your zip code and tell it to look for vehicles within a least a couple hundred miles (think of it as a day trip) of your zip. You can pretty much match that deal you posted in a new one 2023 model it appears.

The "Bomnin Doral" Jeep dealer in Miamis is really marking down the NEW sport and Sport S models like 37% in some cases. That 30,700 Sport S he has is a real steal for a FL car. Has the hard top Sport S package, tow package (not max tow). Really good deal and even if its gone, he does have a couple of others within two thousand. They are very very similar to the 30K one. Here is the window sticker on it.

If you live in the panhandle/ or north coast, Miami might not do it for you, but do the car gurus search on your zip and look.
