I don't have buyer's remorse. I got a decent value and bought at a good time. 43k for mine, back in 2020 dollars, so it seemed like a lot then. They're pretty good deals at the moment, BUT....

I just picked up a 2023 chevy bolt as a commuter car. It is faaaaantastic. The gladiator has been sitting for a long time now, and there's nearly no part of me that wants to drive it daily. It's big, it's slow, its terrible on gas, it rides poorly by comparison, the tires unexpectedly wobble every now and then, and wired carplay sucks.

But I need a truck to tow, and I still wheel, so I'll keep it for now. But I look at the gladiator now as a phase I'm sort of "over". I've done all the big rock trails in socal again and again for the past decade. After going electric, I'm going to eventually replace all my ICE engined vehicles. If I didn't have a trailer to tow, I would've gotten a Rivian in a heartbeat.

My gladiator is completely "done" so the upgrade itch has been scratched. Luckily I've refocused my energy into getting my 75 Corvette rebuilt. I still love the way my gladiator looks, but I've been down this road enough to know the end is near; A Rivian is in my future once the infrastructure gives me confidence to tow. We'll see how Jeep deals with electrification, but the hybrid is absolutely not appealing. I've grown so, so weary of the pentastar, but with used priced I'd be taking an absolute bath on the gladiator. So for now, she remains.

None of your business :)
^ lol. I already own a Bmw IX electric and I'm glad I leased it as once my 3 yr is over, I'm going to return it and get a X5 and hopefuly a hybrid. Anything with a battery is a disposable (even hybrids).

And one of the reasons why I'm looking to trade my '19 Ford Ranger towards a diesel Glady. I love electric but not sold on it yet.

I do get discounted rates from smud but even at that, my bills have gone a lot. In CA, ya are screwed with utility companies either way. With EV, once ya get past 70 miles/hr on the freeway, it starts consuming the battery like a mofo. Then add in wind drag, load, full 4 passengers and the marketed range drops like crazy (not just BMW but any EV). I'm a healthcare consultant so work hybrid but when I have to drive, it can be anywhere from 30 miles to 300 miles (I drive as far as Fresno and back!). In winter, EV range just sucks. I've been in cases where I left the house at good 200 miles range which turned into 100 miles a short while later due to cold temps and wind drag.

If anything, it's only Tesla that has the best public charging infracture to date. All others are meh and I've had to wait like 40 mins to hunt down a working 'super charger' and then wait again for that Audi- Etron to be done as they were already in line first.

I've owned a bmw diesel back in the day and nothing beats diesel milege on the freeway! This is where EV falls far short and is more handy for short intown commutes. Europe is another story as the country invests in EV and charging infracture (and yes Tesla superchargers are availble to the general public unlike States). In USA, those people living in the south won't ever give up their lifted trucks for the sake of EV and a greener planet so trust me...EV will never mainstream ..maybe in CA but not in other states.

I have “not-yet-buyer’s remorse”. While I’ve owned 3 Jeeps (and a 88 Bronco, a Pontiac GTP, and others), I’ve been without one for 8.5 years, driving a 2010 Subaru Outback with CVT moped transmission. This car is, by a gap so big you can’t compare them, the most reliable car I’ve ever driven. It’s barely cost me anything and has never once left me stranded.

Contrast that to my other cars in which I’ve been towed by AAA eleven times. My parents are GMC truck, Buick, and Cadillac people, and their cars are also frequently in the shop. Mine has only been in th shop for oil changes, until last summer I said “hey replace these things which aren’t broken but before they break”, just because we had a baby and I felt overdue for being towed and didn’t want to deal with car seats in a flatbed.

Oh yeah, it’s also better in the snow than any other car I’ve driven including the Jeeps in 4wd (the traction control of this thing and balance keeps me straighter than they could in 4, and it’ll drive plowing with the bumper in deep snow; it’s truly laughable how good it is with simple snowflake all seasons).

And I can put the seats down and haul a ton of materials for woodworking and other projects, plus I have a hitch and tow trailers just fine for whatever house projects I’ve got going on, and get 28mpg when I’m not.

Anyways, I’ve put 130k onto it as second owner, and am bored out of my goddamned mind in the thing. I miss my manuals, I miss my 6cyl (or 8) or supercharger, I miss the convertible aspect. I miss walking out of a store and smiling, or the driveway etc.. The ego side died long ago so I don’t care about red lights, and someone backed into the doors (twice!) so it’s all dented, and I honestly don’t care anymore. Now I also drive it like I stole it, flooring it all the time for fun hoping it dies, but it doesn’t.

A year ago we moved and I started working for myself from home, so I barely drive anymore. Maybe 20 miles a week, if that, and so I need a car even less. And yet I want a gladiator so badly, but know it’s a really bad financial choice. I just don’t need it, and have remorse before buying cause I know better. I’d go used prob for 30k and then drive it 20miles a week, when I have a perfectly more than adequate car I trust my life with more than any other car, for free, with years of free mileage ahead of me. Then it would drop in value and I’d want to trade to 4xe for my particular situation, or Rivian, but they’re even more pricey for the same few miles. I considered renting a gladiator if that’s a thing, for nice days etc., but that’s not really the same.

So yeah, remorse would be real and the only reason I’m not in one is such remorse. I don’t want that feeling, and it’s hard to get smile miles at 20 a week. Guess that really means I don’t make enough money. But I’m so bored!

Yes, I've been doing it. Will call around again tomorrow.
If I can offer you a suggestion find an Independent Insurance Agent who has multiple companies to draw from. Another option is to contact an Insurance Broker who knows the ins and outs of the biz and can find you the best deal. They make their money by quoting you a slightly elevated price versus what the pay but it is frequently cheaper than you can find by your self.

Skip the Rivian and get a Cybertruck! That way you can tow just about anything you want, go anywhere you want and have the best charging network on the planet. The R1T is a great truck and I almost bought one but….

Interesting thing about insurance. If anyone has been following the topic (all kinds of insurance) the market is over leveraged causing all premiums to go up. I read an interesting article the other day where it was noted that insurance premiums have a direct influence on why inflation is still high. Not looking for a political debate, but just writing an opinion on forces at work.

Our F150 was a bit lower to insure than our Gladiator. We did not find out about it until the deal was done, but comparing the experiences, top off, doors off, etc, I am willing to pay a bit more for memories that (hopefully - unless dementia kicks in fast) wont fade!

Have fun with that Jeep and make those regrets find another place to live!!!

Does anybody know what the most realistic site is insofar as value is concerned on these? I've looked at Kelley Blue Book but am unsure as to if that's a good gauge. Honestly considering selling this thing off with 1,900 miles. I've got cold feet and the insurance prices are giving me sticker shock for the foreseeable future. I don't want to pay some scummy insurance outfit $160 every month, possibly more in the future, to drive this thing.

I agree with puddlejumper, take it out and have some fun. I see you are in Washington, you are already in Gods country and no matter where you live in the state you are always close to back country and you don't need any mods. I am less than 30 minutes to hitting the trails where I live in WA.
Buyers remorse happens to most. You can't do anything about rising insurance cost except shop around. We have to blame the uninsured motorist, in part and among other issues, to our rising cost. Enjoy our state, it can be very therapeutic.
Yo where you guys at? I’m around Everett. Is there an active regional thread?

Sorry for the hijack.

Carmax and Carvana instant offer would be your best bet. KBB is worthless. Those are real offers and usually in line with, or better than, many dealerships.

I pay $548.51 over 6 months for my MY23. It’s a sport though with LSD, hard top, and tow package. No ACC or other gizmos. The supply chain crunch IS real and I wonder if you guys are getting punished for all the microchips in your vehicles.

I’m in WA with your typical $100k/$300k coverage and $500 deductibles. USAA. One very minor at fault accident about 5 years ago that I’m not sure if it’s counted against me still.

Costco came close in price, but USAA has them beat on additional coverages.

Manheim MMR. It’s your average price dumping it now to a dealer at an auction. With usually quite a few sales to back the price.

I tried Carmax and their offer was $40,600. Yeah, NOPE. I think I'll be driving it for a while, haha. The insurance thing just makes me sick to my stomach. I checked BEFORE I bought, and then they slam me with this rate hike. Just disgusting.
