My Grand Cherokees had the 8.4" but my JT has the pathetic (by comparison) 7". Has anyone upgraded to the OEM Infotainment 8.4" or some aftermarket system you're pleased with?

Yep! I got the 8.4 unit from Infotainment. The install was pretty easy, it's all plug and play. Have to let it sit overnight to let it figure itself all out with the software and such, but I never had any issues with it and enjoyed the extra screen size and features. A Tazer will enable off road pages and more!

Thanks, Nate! I've read elsewhere that the changeover needs to simmer overnight but it's far better to have advice from someone who has successfully done this. Much appreciated!

I did it in my friends sport. I took the 8.4 out of my totaled gladiator and put it in his sport that had the 7" in it. Because it was already in a jeep before, we had to buy an unlock code off the Internet for $25.
I bought that 8.4 brand new on eBay for $600. If you look, you can find them for around $600. I definitely wouldn't pay more than that.

The 8.4 does NOT need your vin number programmed into it, do not buy into that, it is a selling gymic

That is a great price! I checked the Infotainment site and the head unit is north of two grand there. Do you recall where you purchased the unlock code?

This is a want, not a need for me. But every time I've looked, they've been more like $1500, not $600.

I followed @dayusmc advice and I'm looking around ebay right now. I'm finding some potential candidates for around $300. and upward.

If you buy a new unit, you do not need a lock code. You only need the lock code if it was installed in a Jeep before..
