Or is it just me? Now that the Gladiator has been out for a while, I thought insurance premiums would have come down to Wrangler levels, but I haven't seen it. Both Progressive and Farmers have charged me much higher rates for the Gladiator over the Wrangler.

Most recent experience: I just traded my '23 Mojave ($62K sticker) for a '24 JLURX w/XR ($72K sticker), and my insurance dropped by over $350 every 6 months. I'm thinking the safety features on the '24 X might play a role here (mainly the frontal collision avoidance), but I've had similar increases/drops when going from Wrangler to Gladiator and back in the past, and my Wranglers involved didn't have the safety package(s) back then.

Is the Gladiator less safe? I wouldn't think so. Are us Gladiator drivers less safe? I wouldn't think so either. But the data must be saying something to the insurers.

There are so many variables in auto insurance. Cost isn't the most important factor.
Location, theft, accidents, cost of replacement parts and labor.
Trying to figure it out will make your head explode.

If you think your insurance is too much, shop around. You'd be surprised how quickly your insurance company will give you discounts when you tell them Company X can do it for less money.

Lol, yeah I know that insurance in general is a dead horse being beaten here, but I just wanted to know if Gladiator insurance had been consistently higher versus Wrangler for anyone else. Do you also have or have had a Wrangler to compare your Gladiator rates against?

I have a 23 Gladiator Rubicon and 21 Wrangler 4XE Rubicon and the Gladiator is significantly more expensive. I shopped around and found similar discrepancies at most of the bigger names.
I spoke to my State Farm agent about it and they couldn’t tell me why. They even escalated to underwriting thinking it was an error.

Probably not since your agent looked into it, but could it be replacement cost value vs. actual cash value?

In Michigan, we must carry replacement value until the vehicle is 3 years old.

I experienced the same thing. I shopped around and found my current carrier was cheapest by a huge margin (to the tune of 3k/year cheaper). When I asked about the pricing difference I was told it was due to the cost of body shop repairs and the overall price of the vehicle…

Potentially, but my wife’s 4XE is certainly more expensive than the Gladiator both in replacement and probably in repairs with the battery complexity.

Hard to tell unless the same person is listed as the main driver for both vehicles. Otherwise rate differences could be driver-specific.

In your case and if you were in Michigan, you’d be carrying the more expensive replacement value on the Gladiator and the cheaper actual cash value (ACV) on the Wrangler. Because of the Gladiator not being 3 yrs old but the Wrangler now is.

But I get what you’re saying with the 4XE being a potentially bigger liability to them.

Insurance companies use algorithms among other things to determine your rate. Rates will slowly creep up until you notice. Unfortunately most people don't notice (or don't care) and they're gouged after a few years, believing bundles and other scam "discounts" are making a difference, only to learn that if they had switched earlier, they'd be paying less somewhere else.

Every 2 years, shop around. Be wiling to switch. There is no such thing as customer loyalty in the insurance industry.

I'm with Clearcover and they didn't charge me much more for the 2021 Gladiator than the 2018 Wrangler, and they are both Rubicons with similar equipment levels....if anything the JT has a little more...auto transmission and leather seats.

I'm paying about $900 a year for the 21 JT, 18 JL, and a 2007 Corvette. That said, I've nad no major claims in 25 years and no tickets in just over 20 years. And I'm 55 years old.
