I loved my Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Diesel, it was my fifth Jeep. With all the warranty and recalls dealing with incompetent dealerships I met my breaking point after my last recall experience and traded it for a new Chevy ZR2. When every time my Jeep would go in for warranty work or a recall the dealerships seem to be clueless as to what they were doing. Through the years I have searched for competent Jeep dealers in the Omaha Nebraska area even outside the city and all are just as bad. Some of the issues I've had... 200 mile joy ride in my Jeep while in the shop for warranty work. Returned with an empty tank, paid for work and found the work had not been performed, incompetent mechanics that can not diagnose anything. If they plug in a scanner and it does not tell them what the problem is they are clueless, poor communication among all service personnel, service managers that know very little about cars especially Jeeps, and poor management on all levels. Heck, they even lost my Jeep the last time. I filled out the survey as they asked and a manager called me. We talked for quite awhile then I noticed he had limited knowledge of vehicles as well. This was a large city dealership. I'm sad but I couldn't take it anymore.

Did you find that the Chevy dealership was better?

Bad experience, but probably dealer issues, not Jeep’s. And to be honest, the diesel platform has a track record of problems. Most of us with the 3.6 have vehicles with zero issues. Good luck with your new one. Nothing wrong with chevys. I like them and we own one now, and have owned lots. But they aren’t jeeps. :)

Sorry to hear your story. Proof yet again that poorly trained/educated employees can negatively impact -any- business. I've been looking for a reliable and competent HVAC service provider for 3+years in the Boston area. On #5 now.

Unfortunately this seems to be an issue all across the country in multiple industries both blue and white collar workers, just not enough skilled labor.

Its all about a competent dealer.

For me I have to travel about 30 miles to get to that GM dealer, but they do shit right.

Every manufacture has issues and its only a matter of the right service department to do the right thing

I got too much in my JTURD to let go now.

Enjoy the Chevy, the Colorado seems to be a nice truck.

The blame should be given to the general population who elect morons that give large auto makers impossible parameters to build vehicles that people want to buy. Also blame the general population for producing people that can't do manual labor....and the teachers that told them to get a degree in bullshit instead of a skill that is useful to society.

But yea, I would be pissed too. That really sucks man.

Say what? This is not political. This is about poor service, poor training and greed. And you know... personal responsibility. Jeep dealership has given me the worst experience. And that's pretty much the general consensus.

On another note, I'm picking a 24' Toyota Sequoia tomorrow with their new twin turbo 6 hybrid engine. Wish me luck. LOL. Not replacing the Jeep. Despite my qualms, I like it too much to get rid of it. Will see about Toyota's rep for dependability with these new engines.

If I had to choose between the ZR2 and the Gladiator, today, I'd do the ZR2. They nailed the design, and I like the suspension. The MPG is curiously bad, and it's odd that it comes with 0 skids plates from the factory, but forgivable overall. The gladiator is great, but I'm not in love with it anymore. It's just a tool that sits in my driveway for when I need a tow pig or to go wheeling/camping. Despite it being paid off, trading it would result in taking a huge bath on it.

That said, I'd like to do a few trails with a ZR2 to be sure. If there's one thing my Jeeps have done, it's been dead bang reliable and super capable. So much that I expect that. If the Chevy wasn't able to crawl rock gardens, I'd be over that even quicker than the gladiator.

Never had a problem with the diesel. Actually it is one of the best engines I ever owned. Great for towing too.

Fuel pump, bottoming out stock suspension, def issues causing you not to be able to start it, hot weather derating, etc. the people that don’t have issues love them. But there’s a reasonable list of owners with lots of issues.

I honestly thought you were going to give a list of issues but I don’t really see anything noted. Stuff like that scares away potential diesel owners and that’s unfortunate. I still love mine, and if it weren’t for the diesel I wouldn’t buy a Gladiator at all. To each their own
