This is wild. The thing was engineered during the great recession. It's painfully long in the tooth and down on power, which is as true now as it was 5 years ago. By 2030, yikes!
Could be worse, they could still be stuffing the minivan engine in them…..

No, it is an engine that is also used in minivans.
Minivans, Wrangler, Gladiator, Ram 1500 and a boatload of out of production rental fleet Chargers, Challengers, 300's, Avengers, Journeys, and a handful of vehicles currently sold in China.

But the only USDM current production are the Jeeps, Ram and mommyvans.

Grew up driving a 1976 CJ5 with a 232 I-6 (90 hp, 170 lb-ft torque), then a 1947 Willy's with transplanted V6 (160 hp, 235 lb-ft torque). The pentastar V6 is ok for me... I can accelerate up any of our mountain passes here in Colorado.

And the Rubicon gearing provides plenty of crawling torque.

IMHO

Yes, and my buddy just sent me this picture. They currently have 619,725 miles on their 2014 minivan.

So hard not to get sucked into the speculation going on in the various media outlets. There are videos circulating out there that are very high production quality OEM like that clearly placed the Straight 6 in there for MY 2025. In addition it mentioned a new steering rack to address on center precision, chassis upgrades to improve highway comfort, further interior refinement etc.... It evem mentioned the ZF 8HP75 would be standard to deal with the extra torque of the Turbo I-6. It was sooo convincing, they got me.

A V6 Hybrid might still entice me to jump. I don't tow a ton but enough and I'm concerned about the reported gladiator experience here and elsewhere. I don't care about the 7K max I wouldn't be close to that but I've driven a RAM 1500 Regular cab 5.7L with the ZF8HP75/tow package for 10yrs and would likely regret stepping down in performance significantly.

Uh, It is a minivan engine.........
Not Really boss. Kinda a fresh thing. Kinda a one stop shop for a V6 across all lines. One that was once populated by 3.7, 3.8, 4.0.

The I-6 just doesn't fit in the Wrangler or JT unless they are re designed some. They will do it,,,,, someday. The 3.6 is a proven engine for now and my re geared to 4.88 JT moves out just fine, even with 37s.. The biggest thing I would gain with a 392 is the sound. The Jeep line is already to expensive so lets no make it cost even more.

I don't understand the "minivan" engine as a dig. As though being in a mommyvan is a bad thing?

It is a corporate motor used in multiple vehicles. Just so happens the majority of what it was used in are now out of production and all that is left are minivans, Jeeps, and a single trim of the Ram 1500.

Guess the people that think that would really hate to know that a variation on the Mitsu motor that was found in the Voyager/T&C/Caravan back in the day was also in the 3000GT, Stealth, and others.

The Hurricane series of 4's and 6's are also a corporate motors. Are they bad now if they made it into a mommy van?

I hope that's not true, steering rack implies ifs which would be the death of the Wrangler and gladiator in my opinion. I'll take the solid axle and any engine option over the I6 hurricane and ifs. Might as well just buy a wagoneer or bronco at that point.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker, would agree with you. ;)
