Finally got a chance to leave pavement.

I bought my first Gladiator in July of 2019 and put 57k miles on it, all on pavement or well maintained roads. I got another one in February and have over 5k miles on it. I finally got time to go off road, but it was for work. I had to visit a remote antenna site in Tonopah to swap a Rectifier. The bright light you can see in the distance is a solar collector of some sort.

Sort of a solar collector, but only as a heat source. The towers at searchlight are giant salt pillars. The mirrors around them focus the sunlight on them heating them to several thousand degrees. The heated salt is used to power electricity generating steam turbines. It's a much more indirect method of generating electricity from the sun than solar panels and I'm guessing it's not as cost effective as they are adding acres and acres of solar panels and I don't think there's another mirror/salt/steam generating plant anywhere that I've seen.

It was fun. I haven't driven anything like that since I was young in our '75 Chevy shortbox.

Nice! Off road is the natural home of a Jeep. I took mine off road during the test drive and again on the way home from the dealer.

That’s mandatory nowadays. I told my dealer I wanted to make sure the LSD worked on my diesel, so I pulled into a parking lot on the test drive and laid two patches down. He and I both agreed that the LSD did in fact work as it should

I wish thats all my job was. Drive across bum fuck nowhere and change out this part. and get paid 6 figures to do it. I'd just camp all the time.

I will share with the whole forum lol. Actually been looking doing some rural forestry peservation work out west or similar. They gotta hire the guy who already has his own 4x4 right?

Good old government subsidized $2.2billion experiment that has been losing money since day 1. Who'd have thought that using the sun to heat salt, to vaporize water, to power a stream generator to create electricity would be less efficient than just using the sun to create electricity via solar panels? I can only imagine what harken to a bird that Flys through the focused sun beam.

If said bird happens to be a game bird, or sand hill crane, I would stage myself near and start collecting already pre-grilled meat. Hard times are upon us, I am planning for resourcefulness food procurement.
