adding some welcome lights under my running boards that i would like automated to when i approach, unlockm or remote start the vehicle

i want to automate my reverse lights to a light bar on my sports bar

a few future upgrades

i do have oem aux switches but somethings i just like to automate

So I have spent most the day figuring out wiring and where things need to go
I am going to use a aux fuse/relay box with a inline circuit breaker and battery isolator triggered with acc power
I will use 2 bus bars for positive and negative
And 3 distribution blocks

This will be fed by 4 gauge wire for positive from the battery
And 4 gauge wire to a ground under the spare tire

I am going to switch the license plate lights using a t harness to 5 pin adapter from the tow. The 5 pin has a harness which will lead to the distribution area and have its own distribution blocks

For my sports bar I am going to use a double pole double throw relay
When it actuator up I will pass the 12v also as a trigger for the light bar to turn on and use a delayed timer to give actuator a moment to turn up. This all will be triggered by the reverse light going on (light bar is my new reverse light lol) this will also be triggered by my aux switches number 2 just incase I want to run it when not in reverse

My front light bar will be run by the aux switch number 1 with no further need for automation

Out of curiosity why not a fan of under the hood? It's above the already set water line and be protected just the same as the relays already in your truck under the hood.

I have a relay box under the hood, bought a prebuilt setup one. It's bolts to the driverside under the hood. Mine is just for an after market aux switch bank, but could be used in similiar fashion really.

There are a few companies that make them and a few people on here have done diy ones like yours. Personally I like the clean install under the hood rather then under a seat, not that it matters many people run radio relay and air compressor relays under the back seat. So to each their own.

whats funny is i have been passing around why not underneath the hood

here is my reasons not to
most the electronics i want to attach to this are or will be either in the cabin or in the bed.
i only have to pass 1 wire through the firewall to do this. (actually it may be none as i can run the power under the cab to the drain hole directly under where i want to be)
I have far more electronics then just the fuse relay box.... i have additional relays and diodes that dont fit
a big one for me is the stupid dealer ship..... i can unhook 1 wire and they can work on the car. Wth nothing in there path and nothing to mess up later.

if i were to add rock lights or anything like that i could connect to the aux switch wires under the hood
this is more for automation of lighting and a few other things

i tend to over enginereer and over think things so i dont ever take insult to the devils advocate!!!!

If my "stuff" was in the rear - I'd do the same thing.
It makes more sense than several small wires running clear to the bed of the truck.

And I'd probably run the "hot" wire down into the frame and then back up like my power step wiring - up through a cabin hole.

It would keep it neat and tidy. Think of house wiring with sub-panels........

I have bumper mounted backup lights and those come on either when in reverse, or, via an aux switch. I used a diode to prevent feedback.
I want to be able to switch those lights on at night to help with loading and strapping a car onto my car hauler after dark when events are over.

yeah i figure most automation or constant on stuff is in the cab or behind me... anything switched is in front
i am going to knock out my license plate light in reverse with this system also .... hate that thing lol ..... i will interrupt the power why with a normally closed relay and then when it opens i will have that poll connect to the ground of the license plate wire harness and finish the loop so that its all happy again

i do home care nursing for a living sometimes its treacherous and poorly lit sometimes even off road lol.... so i want some lighting for those situations to ... i also like convenience lighting ... if i walk up to the truck i like to see where i am stepping and if anyone is under there waiting for me .

Yeah that makes sense to do it there. So I'm sure someone has done it similar on this forum for those very reasons.

I didn't read the posts but this MAY be similar to your ideas............

very simplistic version kinda..... i will document in a thread my process and how everything works .... this jeep is really gonna be customized to my likings.... i have a go rhino bar 2.0 with the actuator that bolts to my retractable cover with the maxxtraxx.... no holes in this jeep..... go rhino wont make the bar for jeep.... i think it looks awesome... had to make custom brackets
alot more to come

I keep far too much stuff in my truck to give up precious under seat storage.

But - if that's not a problem for you then using it for electrical systems is a great idea. Cooler / easier on electronics then being in a hot engine bay and shorter runs depending on where your accessories are located.

I slightly misspoke .... it will be behind the seat on the floor...... i hope? most the stuff comes in today .... seeing I can get this done in a small space
