5.13 is a bit crazy to me, especially with a 8 speed. If we were all still stuck with 4,5, and 6 speed autos or manual it would make more sense to me. I'd say as long as you fall in a colored square, mechanically your fine. Its just to personally preference as to what's your taste.

Generic list - 65mph at 1:1 trans gear.
This chart is misleading as 4:88/auto/315s on my 2024 JL runs at 2350 RPM at 75 mph. The chart specific to the JT/JL's auto trans that someone posted is much more helpful. Most people have no idea how to translate 1:1 at 65 mph to their current vehicle.

Tons of info here,

Its all in your preference, and exactly what you're doing with the JT, I'm in flat Florida, I like my 8th gear, And I didn't buy it as a tow rig,

I had a '22 Willy's XR with 2.0T, it was a perfect blend of power, torque, gear ratio and tire size. there's quite a bit of difference between the two motors, especially at altitude. a 3.6 with 8 speed would benefit greatly from 5.13's.

Whenever I decide to pull the trigger on a regear based on everyone's comments I will go with 5.13.

5.13s drive almost exactly like 4.10s if you downshift by 1 gear. Need 5100-5200rpms to maintain 85mph up a hill? With 5.13s you'll be in 5th gear, 4.10s 4th gear. Need 6600 rpm to accelerate up that hill at 85? 4th vs 3rd. Need 2600 rpm to maintain that speed into a headwind? 8th vs 7th, still in overdrive either way. Coming down the 26 mile downhill stretch of I-15 into Baker? 4.10s is cruising along at 2100 rpms, 5.13s is still loaded up at 2600+ for no reason. Not saying 4.10s are optimal for 37s, but in my opinion 5.13s are too low. I'd prefer 4.56 as I do a lot of high speed diving across the desert and I don't tow with the JT.

I've got 5.13's on 35's. I haven't had a chance to read everyone's response, but what that chart doesn't take into account is the weight of the new wheels and tires. I thought 4.88's but the shop I went to told me if I'm towing... and I do, that I'll want the 5.13's. I haven't regretted it yet. I'm also in Utah and tow an RV trailer up some of these steep mountains.
If you could go back would you do 5.38s or have the 5.13s been perfect?

I’m usually loaded up when camping towing a small camper trailer and occasionally towing dirtbikes on a trailer. Currently stock 4.10s with 37s. Was thinking 5.13s also but wondering if there’s any pros/cons of just going 5.38

No, I'd keep it at 5.13's it's perfect. After your message I borrowed some 37's from a buddy and took my trailer for a cruise. I don't think you'll see any advantage to the 5.38's. If you're planning on 40" tires... maybe it would be great, but at that point you should probably be thinking of updating the axles to some 60's under there.

Thanks👍🏽 no I wouldn’t do 40s on the stock 44. Don’t think ill ever want 40s lol Went 37s because i got a killer deal(price matching at discount tire) paid 280 a tire instead of 480 for some yoko geolandar x-ATs. Honestly seems ok with the 4.10s, it handles em fine. Even towing it’s not a huge deal but my mpgs drop a bunch of course and It’s always dropping to 4th on hills. Just changed my diff fluids and they look new at 50k miles. I’ll have to see when I really want to make the jump.

4..10’s were acceptable except on the highway, 8th gear was nonexistent. Once I switched to 5.13 the Jeep became much more fun to drive with the felt added torque from the gear swap

I have 5:13s with 40s. and I feel its great. I have no regrets. 5:13s with 35s is crazy. I felt over geared when I was on 37s. Maybe if you never cruise at any highspeed.

I highway cruise on 5.13’s and 37’s all the time and it does not feel overgeared at all.

50K miles on 4:88 was 100% perfect. My wife bought a new Gladiator and was complaining the new on did not have enough power. That was comparing a stock one to one with 37's and 4:88s.
