Perfect view of why stub bumpers are the best for off-roading, and Wildhobo has an awesome bumper that some old hippy made that checks both of our boxes, and is one of the nicest looking multi function bumpers out there, me ….I would have paid attention and just drove around the stump, I mean really Dan it was in the middle of no where and ya still hit it!😎…….Jack
I was way too beckoning. Just wanted to see if I could get it to grab. :)

I think that bumper would look best stubby without the light bar. No sense blocking cooling for cosmetics imo but I am also biased.

This. Anything sticking up or out is really in the way when working on anything under the hood.

Unless I missed someone else mentioning it, the purpose of a stubby is to improve approach angle. It allows you to turn into an almost vertical climb that a wide bumper simply will not allow.
If that's not a concern, then put on whatever turns you on.

To me, stubby bumpers look best but I personally run a full length steel bumper. I’d rather have full width protection when a coyote or a deer runs out in front of me than worry about looks
I've wondered about this myself... would a deer hitting a little wingydingy on a convertable stubby/full bumper do much besides mangle the wingydingy (possibly shoving it into your tire)? I feel like the tire might make a better first-point-of-contact with a deer than a thin/lightweight bumper extension.

It also prevents tires from hitting the back of the bumper. That was my biggest problem. Approach angle was fine for me.

I hit a deer that was as easily several hundred pounds, with the wing on my stubby. It bounced off like it was nothing. I was going 60mph. But my wings are solid steel. The deer exploded.

I've wondered how hard a hit those wings would take. Knowing that, if I had it to do over again, I'd have probably gone with an OEM steel. I have no complainted at all about my LOD. It's tough as hell and does the job perfectly but it's hard to beat the looks of the factory steel bumper

As someone who has paid a lot of money in deer-related insurance deductibles... I approve of this message.
This was my first. I had hoped I’d never hit one. I’m hoping there won’t be another. It was one of those lateral running across the road hits. I couldn’t have done anything to prevent it. I spilled a lot of coffee. Cup was in my hand.

I have no idea how large the deer are in your area, but they are plenty big and tall here, and can easily go over almost any car bumper, and many truck bumpers. They stand tall.

A friend hit 3 at once with his SX4 (they sit high). One went under and ripped off the exhaust, another went flying over the roof and the third flew off to the side, almost ripping off his fender.

Here's one of the trophy bucks from Iowa - (not me, I wish! LOL)

I installed a new bumper and can't decide which I like better.

YES.

A stubby bumper is great if you're running larger tires and need the clearance. I think the wings bring the look of the front end together.
