Also a huge different between a 3.6 V6 and a 2.0 4 banger turbo.

(He isn't telling you the JLUR he's referring to with 5.38 and 38s is a 4 banger turbo)
Funny that in every thread on the JL forum comparing the 2, the consensus is there's not much difference? Too deep is too deep period. The 3.6L XR felt like the gearing was too deep, although obviously not as bad, on the stock 35s with is 4.56s. No, i haven't run every gearing combo, but I've run more than most. 4.56s and 37s is perfect according to my experience, the math, and not spinning 3k downhill on the freeway. If you only drive 70mph, gear to the moon. I agree that 2200rpms is perfect on the freeway.

I look at it as, If I have a high gear that the trans don't shift into automatically when traveling at highway speeds then regear just to make it easier on it . If you use all 8 then you are probably fine

Tons of info here,

Its all in your preference, and exactly what you're doing with the JT, I'm in flat Florida, I like my 8th gear, And I didn't buy it as a tow rig,
what gears did you go with?

That makes a significant difference, as it would if it were a diesel. I typically don’t weigh in on diesel gearing. Since I don’t have one.

Power output is very similar, having owned and driven both the difference isn't much at sea level. At 10k feet+ the turbo walks away from the v6 thanks to its inhaler. And I've also owned 2 v6s and only 1 2.0t. The v6 still felt over geared on the freeway with 4.56s and 35s. The math is simple, depending on which factory set up you think drives the best. I preferred the stock mojave setup over the stock XR. Going to 37s 4.56s are perfect for me. 4.88s aren't all that different so I could probably live with those but 5.13s is too deep for either engine in my real world use.

It shouldn't even be discussed in a 3.6 gasser thread. And if it is discussed, at the very least it should be disclosed, otherwise it's misleading.

That's the key, 4.56 is the perfect ratio for you. 4% agree with you on this according to the poll results.

Definitely not misleading anyone and I'm very open about the fact that I drive faster than most. I drive the mojave faster off road than many on here are willing to drive on the freeway. I have no desire to be cruising down hill at nearly 3k rpms and no load. Even if I did, I'd downshift and save the $3k a regear costs locally.

I personally love my 5.13’s with my JTR 3.6. I get 8th gear on the highway and it rock crawls like a champion.

I see 8th in my mojave on the freeway with 4.10s. And at 85mph it's about 2150rpms. We have a JLUR for rock crawling, and it's only geared 4.56 on 39s. I'd argue 85-1 crawl ratio in an automatic is enough gearing for crawling on 50" tires but that's just my experience. Hell the XJ only had a 32-1 crawl ratio with its auto and 4.10s and never had any issues crawling on the Rubicon or fordyce on 35x14.50s. This trans has more than enough gearing.

Im flip flopping more than a politician. I’m back on the 5.13 boat.

- 37s now, maybe 38s in the future
- 300 lbs minimum extra weight in gear, tools, and topper (sometimes north of 500lbs)
- Hilly region with frequent trips to mountains
- Minimal rock crawling but I think more over the next few years
- No significant towing planned

That much money, I don’t wanna regret not going deeper.

Go with 5.13's- if you're like 96% of jeep owners, you'll be very happy with those.

85MPH with 37's and 5.13's puts you at 2650 RPM, right on the bottom end of the peak power curve for the 3.6 Pentstar. Understand that there isn't a gearing available that will get you decent mileage at 85 in a gladiator on 37's.

96% of jeep owners will never regear, I mean if we are just pulling numbers out if thin air and stating them like actual facts. The difference being I'm probably 90% closer to the actual reality.
