Stinging article on Stellantis on CNN. Not looking good.

Nissan frontiers start in the low 30s with pro4X's in the low 40s. I have a gladiator, and the quality appears similar. The Nissan is more powerful, but you'd be hard pressed to find a engine less powerful than the pentastar in 2024.

Nissan trucks may be cheap, but the company is constantly in trouble money-wise and I've seen some quality issues with them.
After what a friend in the construction went through for 2 years with his........... and nothing was covered, it would take 12K to just get the basics taken care of.

As much as I'm quick to point out my issues with Jeep and Stellantis, I will say I haven't had a single issue with any of my 3 pentastars. Conversely, my in laws just replaced the entire engine on their Ecoboost Ford Escape at 41k miles, after having huge issues in their previous Focus. Which they bought after lemon-lawing their previous Fiesta.

I bet that's why "off road" trims on relatively sedate vehicles are so popular vs. dedicated off road vehicles. Slapping some bilstein shocks and a skid plate is a lot cheaper than a stand alone platform.

More manufacturers are producing more comfortable and efficient "off roady" vehicles for less and Stellanis Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler all missed the boat.

Cheaper with a fraction of the capabilities, and still stuck without so much as a t-top experience, let alone a fully open top. Sure see a lot of topless wranglers here in the summer ...not so much those other platforms.

I "trust" NBC for automotive articles long before I'd ever go to CNN for same. NBC and CBS, at least in the past, actually did investigative journalism on automotive "things".

Just because someone doesn't like CNN doesn't necessarily mean anything - but there's always some in certain groups who assume and put people in buckets.
CNN is bleeding viewers from all sides. That should suggest something. They are just bad.

Betcha you can't "guess" which news organization I've been keeping an eye on in recent days.......

I never said I liked CNN. I don’t care or watch it. But the same folks calling it stupid, politically charged names are likely the same ones focusing on Newsmax like it’s legitimate.

The article I read last week (which lead me to come back here today to see if anyone was talking about it) mentioned layoffs at the Ohio assembly plant and reduced shifts to make Gladiators. It said the announcement came after the election, and was news to me but I don't come here as much as I used to so maybe we've known for longer.

The rest of it is definitely old news - but "old news" is also relevant background information for people who don't get their Jeep news from a forum.

The Jeep dealership nearest me was bought out by their competing CDJR-Kia dealer - who already had a 2nd lot in my market. What was at least the illusion of competition has disappeared. That being said, after my last ordeal with them I think it's also "Good Riddance".

I do see a lot more Gladiators driving around now, which I guess is to be expected, but don't know if I'd be able to buy a new one myself if it came to it.

It is bad, for certain. High interest rates, high MSRP and "market adjustments" have cut across the whole industry but Ford really has really sank in the consumer perception category. Poor build quality and constant service issues aside, It is design by bean counter in Dearborn and Quality Has Not Been Job 1 for a long time.

My suspicion is because they've deeply discounted JTMs/JTRs, the gap between them and Sports is narrow enough that people are stepping up to the JTM/JTR if they can. The difference between a $44K Sport and a $54K JTM works out to be under $100 more per month.

The dealer I use has been stocking Rubicon and Mojave, an occasional Sport.
Ironically, most of what I see on the road are NOT Rubicons. Most are Sport - otherwise Mojave. Odd.
I also note that the dealers around me (within 200 miles, for example) often have Mojave on the lot for several months.
It's contrary to my observations of what's on the lots.

If I was going by monthly payments, yeah, I'd balk at another 70 bucks a month if I had less budgeted. That is a big deal - and a deal killer for some folks. 10K is big price difference and 100 a month is a deal killer.

If $100 bucks is a deal killer, then they probably shouldn't be buying a new Jeep. In today's economy, $100 bucks per month is chump change. People spend that much on Starbucks.
