Again, sadly, labor rates are not going to drop.......and will only go up. So eat the shitsandwich now and move on.

Just talked to a local shop owner that's doing my alignment this week.......labor rates are only going up after the new year.......it's the only way shops can retain talent and stay in business.
your right. I'll keep it local as possible to support my community. Might as well put the money in my neighbors pocket

Got 3 quotes from local shops last summer for 5.13's. $3,500, $3,600, and $2,400.

Had to drive an extra 15 minutes into Idaho for the lower quote.

Told them I wanted Revolution gears, they told me "That's all we install."

Double bonus.
nice.

For sure. But it's either bite the bullet now or pay more later.......this is not an environment of the hold, wait and profit......it's actually the opposite

Just had mine done last month at Exodus in San Antonio. Roughly $2,600 OTD. I traveled through there to get it done. Dropped off at 7am and drove away at about 4pm. If nothing else your parts quote is much higher than what I paid. Revolution though.

San Antonio is not the same market or share as the DMV. That like comparing NYC to Portland, Maine.

Copare the average housing cost between Northern Virginia to San Antonio............it's more than double

I don't work in auto, but I am a "seasoned" wrench turner in the semiconductor industry. For the general field of work auto guys seem to get way under paid when compared against what the shops charge per hour. I know there's admin staff to cover as well. Last I asked with a local and very popular shop with the Toyota guys, the techs with a degree were getting 25ish an hour. Shop hourly rate was 180.

Of course dealerships locally are more expensive on their hourly rate and their staff pay is less.

Excuse the detour OP.

I've worked in the auto industry from Hawaii to Maryland..........you can't compare apple to oranges.

The dealer/stealerships are Yes charging $180-350 per hour and paying shit, hence the reason they can't keep techs. But their also paying a shit ton of overhead for the useless Service Managers, the shop, utilities, insurance and all of the other miscellaneous fees/charges. YOU understand dealership make more money from the service department then actually selling cars right?

Been working the industry either part of full time over the last 30 years. Ignorance is not bliss.........it's dog eat dog, that's it

I drove 500 miles in 3 days according to their procedure. Stayed at a local RV park for the week and took off work to get it done since I couldn't bring it back for the break-in inspection later on.

I was passing through the area to East Texas anyway so it's not like I traveled only for this, but sharing my experience.

Oh I know, honestly I feel for those guys. Their jobs are more physical and significantly more dirty. Tech field is paid a lot more but much more of an engineering job.

I fully agree on trying to keep the skilled hands though, our newer guys are, well, different. I'm only 39 too, so pretty big change in the pipeline. The future looks...

Anyway, just venting with an open mind.

Just got a quote from eastcoast gear supply to put 4.88s in my Mojave. This seems more inline if i wanted a locker added not just a straight regear.

The prices suck.... I won't put Yukon anything near my Jeep after yesterday.....and I'm going to share on every post. forum, etc. so hopefully no one has to deal with this crap.

That's a Yukon bearing and pinion that disintegrated with no warning under the rigorous abuse of driving to work on the interstate ....so I got to ride home in a wrecker.

Cool, we're rapping the same jam homie.

Yeah I'm in a chill engineering position now, but I've spent my time in the ditches, under shit and around shit to know the struggle and APPRECIATE it.

Update!!!

Just learned my good offroad buddy used to work at an offroad shop and he told me to swing on by and he'll teach me how to do it myself. Not gonna pass that up. Thought he was just some dude who worked a quarry and liked to wheel.

Hell yeah.

Make sure you show up with the appropriate amount of beer and bourbon for your homie.
