Did someone get duped or was this a choice?

Saw an odd bird in the wild today. It’s either a sport S or overland, but it has red tow hooks on the front(actual hooks, not covers), a single red on the rear, plastic rear bumper, 285s, and rubicon hood stickers (on a non-rubicon hood).

So, did someone get duped or did someone go through a lot of effort to make their non-rubicon look the part?

Just reminds me of all the base model muscle cars that folks would throw SS/GT/Z28 badges on. Didn’t think I’d see that on a gladiator of all things

Our 2023 Silver Zynith Willys JT is hard to tell what it was. I never liked the black grille so is was replaced with a 2022 JL Sahara Silver Zynith grille. A second factory rear hook was added and both of them are now painted silver. The front hooks went with the old bumper and are now Green Pin shackles. Tailgate now says Gladiator instead of Jeep and the retro 4 Wheel Drive decal is gone.
The Willys decals are off the hood and replaced the the name of the Jeep, "Seventh Heaven" (our seventh Jeep).

I took off my stock Mojave plastic bumper and was thinking of selling the tow hooks. They sell for $50 to $75 each, from what I have seen. That's more than the entire bumper is worth. I assume it's people who want to have red or orange tow hooks who buy them.

If you're patient and have room to store it I actually sold my whole willys bumper, black tow hooks and all, for $100 on fb marketplace. Someone got in a fender-bender and needed a stock replacement bumper. It took like 6 months, but worth it.

It's in my shed, along with two S550 Mustang exhausts, a couple BMW exhausts, and all the stock suspension out of my Mojave.

Maybe they were at the liquor store even before they bought that Rubiland OverSport S.

It's not new a lot of people put the rubicon sticker on it. Want the look or the thought only, same people that have never driven even on a fire road. They've been doing this for a long time.

Been the occasional thread on such things. Usually two camps. One camp thinks it is ok since one is free to do whatever with their property. Other camp thinks it is stupid and one is delusional trying to "hump" it into something that it is not.

I get the personalization of putting on take off items from other models, but the "RUBICON" sticker on the hood is kind of cheesy regardless.

Those are non-Rubicon fenders. I have an overland. The fenders are shorter and narrower. Only Rubicon‘s and Mojave go up to the hood line when you look at them from the side.
I have red hooks, front and rear, and the name of the truck in the same font as the Rubicon. I did it because my color combination is black with red accent

most gladiators are driven by "urban cowboys" anyway. does it really matter that much if they pretend a little extra?

Sure, to those of us who know what a rubicon hood looks like in our sleep, this rig looks ridiculous. But to the general population? they have no idea there are different hoods, or fenders, or really any detail us enthusiasts obsess over.

So he's putting on a show for the uncaring. Thinking someone who doesn't know what a rubicon is will be impressed because it's a rubicon... is that sad and stupid? sure. but when the whole truck is a costume, who cares if they give it a little more jewelry?

You actually went up to the vehicle and verified the tow hooks were painted red and not covers?

I was guilty of this the day I picked up my Sport S from the dealer after having the hood replaced. I believe the confusion was due to my also owning a rubicon in the system.
Needless to say, I denied myself the instant $10k bump in resale value and returned it to the service department to have the Rubicon stickers removed.

I saw one the other day with Rubicon stickers on the hood AND on the sides of the bed. Double Rubicon is best Rubicon.
