😲........Well that's what she said! So new to Jeep and really like the Rock Sliders that came on my Willys. (see pic) I don't need a step to get in and don't plan to lift it. Just looking at what is available, and wondered, why would you buy a running board (see other pic) that hangs down and looks like an after thought when you could just add these? https://iagoffroad.com/iag-ez-step-...mMUSr531Fm9vGnOrRzRSoAQYRGuMP42AaAlI8EALw_wcB

I got a set of Rubi take-offs I found on FB marketplace. $150 and completes the look, just doesn't have the steps which I don't mind.

And then I wonder, with the dirt the front wheel is throwing up on the rear fender, if a full running board might not be the answer???

Those hang down further than my OEM tubular side steps.

That being said, I plan to replace them with something stronger one day, but they’ve been really strong and taken some abuse and I’d rather not have ones that hang down like what you pictured.

I installed the OEM running boards because I quickly got tired of gravel pummeling my hinges and rear fenders. It was pissing me off to have paint (on the hinges) getting chipped off of my brand new vehicle, and one large piece of gravel nearly hit my elbow. They are not for any serious four wheeling, though.

I bought Ironman Slider Steps. Not only do I use them to step in….but I also use them to wash the roof of the Jeep. I wanted something flat the whole way across.

I did add some mudflaps on the front wheels.

That’s a nice compromise they look good and appear to be strong and you say they work as a step.

I use them as a step…. The step (flat surface) is probably higher than most other steps. It’s only about 6” below the ledge/opening to get in.

It comes down to what you do with your JT. If the woman wants ease of access and you don't wheel it hard, buy what she needs and keep her happy.

My wife is 5'06" and KNOWS that low steps are not good for off-roading. My wife loves off-roading more than ease of access. She's been rock crawling with me for decades and has seen these side steps ripped clean off. Not good. So my wife makes do or figures it all out with grab handles and a couple swing in methods. My wife wants to wheel it hard and not be embarrassed by low side steps. Slowing down the jeep run.

My wife's favorite Jeep cry is: "Can we lift it higher"?

So... if your better half isn't a bad-ass off-roader like my better half is... Please get low steps. Thank me later. If you only crawl the shopping mall, put on the low steps and keep her happy. Different intents and different strokes for different folks. No harm. No foul.

Happy wife, happy life.

Be well. Jeep on.

I'll be back roading, but won't be doing any wheeling so I'll check those out.

So no in between with you? Either off-road or mall crawl? I'm 70 years old (almost) with a bad back! If I was going to off road, it wouldn't be in a new shiny Jeep. But I'm past those days now. I will run the back roads with it, get it wet, muddy, dusty, maybe a little mild off-road if it becomes necessary. I bought it because it is easy to flat tow behind a RV and I was tired of spending time in Colorado with only a little Smart car to drive. I've made several trips out there with a ATV and rented a Jeep a few times when the wife was along. I probably won't do Black Bear or similar, I'll have some fun with it though, even in stock (mall crawl) trim.

You Be well. Jeep on also!

I have a ‘21 Willys that has running boards (actually a long pipe with steps) that I use every day. I’m 6’2” stock tires, no lift. Even with the step wife has issues getting in. We’re both in our early 70’s. Ours don’t look like an afterthought.

I hear you. I vote put on the steps that you and she likes on your JT.

As for my wife and I, our JT is my wife's middle of the road, in between - mall Jeep. And I will be installing 35" tires and a 2" lift soon.

Cheers!
