Why does it not do it going into Drive? Only reverse. Only one time. Only when cold. Has anyone ever fixed this issue?
It's an annoyance, due to the design of the transmission. It's only an issue to be fixed for some, and there's a TSB for that.

Mine does this when I don’t wait for idle temps to come down during a cold start.

Because the D clutch controls the reverse gear and the 3-4th gear shift. You will eventually get a bad shift going from 3-4 gear. Just wait.

No we won’t. You with the doom and gloom. You’re mixing up a characteristic that most do from new vs a failing part.

Just facts dude. New $50,000 + modern automobiles don’t have transmissions that clunk. Yours is less than 1 in 5,000 that are doing this.
Pull your pan and prove to yourself there is no issues.

It’s 100% fine. I’m not pulling the pan on a great shifting 58k mile transmission with a “lifetime” fluid. A lot of transmission jerk into gear. My 2017 Canyon’s 8 speed did the same thing. The difference is GM has better dealerships and they fixed mine with some programming. I’m told that all mine needs is a relearn but Jeep dealerships suck and pull the “it’s a Jeep thing” bullshit. I gave up after mentioning it several times from brand new forward. You’re describing a failing part. Not something they do from day one.

I get a clunk when engaging reverse coming out of the garage. Fresh start while the engine is cold. This has been happening since day one, no known issues.
How many miles are on your truck?

Referring to TSB 21-039-24? Sounds like Mopar will only honor that if your JT throws a MIL code to go with it right?
Yes that is the case as of now. My reverse gear clunk started at 20,000 miles, I didn’t get the funky 3-4th shift, with the code, till 45,000 miles.
Funny thing is, the check engine light actually went off before i got it to the dealer and it was actually driving fine. My fluid was totally burnt and tons of metal in the pan.

Transmission fluid? So much for that sealed don't touch it theory then.

Thanks for confirming the TSB. I've got a very loud clunk that started around 27k, mostly when putting it into reverse when cold. Dealer shrugged it off. The only other gremlin I'm still chasing is a runaway alternator, which I'll go kick a post off on here in a bit.

It is hard to accurately diagnose a problem with someone´s vehicle based on a noise/clunk described only in writing and that you´ve never seen, heard, or felt in that particular vehicle. The severity of noises is VERY subjective. What is severe to one guy might be very mild to another.

But it is good to know about the TSB. It also makes me want to make sure my transmission is topped off to the proper level. But otherwise, it drives and performs beautifully and temps don´t surge, so I think it is probably fine.

As I have said, it is a very noticeable clunk when going into reverse when cold , one time , first time, no other gears, no bad shift , no overheating, no towing, no CELs. Started at about 20K miles.
So if I power down the system by doing a battery disco will that put it into a re-learn mode? I am beginning to think it's an electronic issue more than a mechanical one. Would pulling the pan and inspecting prove or find anything?

Of course it would. Burnt fluid and metal in the pan is what you will find if there is a problem. Clean green fluid and no metal in the pan and filter means your good.

With a lift, 37 inch tires, and 4.88 gears is the dealer even going to think about a warranty claim?
