Heading out first thing in the morning for a week of wheeling in Moab with the Rubicon. :jk:

I've been there many times on two motorized wheels with the guys, and have ridden most all of the notable trails on dirt bikes, but this is the first time on 4 wheels.....AND....the first time with the wife - and she's definitely got the excitement vs anxiety/fear thing going on. LOL I've been trying to prep her with videos and such, but she knows me just a little too well and the videos may have backfired on me. I'm telling her that we'll take it easy, but I think she knows better. Haha....

Last night it was all Ledges & Shelf Roads, Shelf Roads & Ledges, Ledges & Shelf Roads, Obstacles, Cliffs, "what if we meet someone head-on", etc. discussions. I think she is good, but y'all know how Moab is.....and I'd really like to come home in one piece with no divorce. 🤣 Hoping for a fun and peaceful trip.

Honestly, I've got way too much wrapped up in this rig to renegade thrash it like I've done with the bikes. Just added some lower control arm and rear shock skids to go along with the Diff skids and asfir engine, transmission and transfer case skids. Oh, got the required hitch skid too. I think I'm good to go with the Clayton 2.5+ " Overland lift and 35" Toyo's. (Wish I had 37/38's for this trip). But we'll see....

I'll drop in some pics here if I get a chance, and maybe my wife will finish up some videos and upload them on our youtube channel - and I'll link em. Right now I'm shooting for "moderate" trails, but we'll she how she responds to that. I remember the first time I went to ride - Poison Spider to Golden Spike to Gold Bar Rim to Gemini Bridges to Sovereign Singletrack - in one day!!! I was a little shellshocked by the seemingly non-stop obstacles - BUT - the magic of Moab has never left me since that day.

Right now, I think her mind is in dirt bike mode (she rode for years) and thinking we're going to have to be hitting everything with significant momentum. heh heh. She has yet to gain as much trust as I have in the Gladiator.

So anyway....wish me luck. I know we'll have a blast. I just gotta break her in easy. Maybe Onion Creek for starters. šŸ‘šŸ‘. Any other suggestions?

My baby, geared up, ready and waiting to be set loose in Moab..........

You’ll do so well with that rig. Have a fantastic time. Gemini bridges is a good warmup, but very easy and beautiful. I haven’t done onion, but I’m guessing similar from what I’ve been told. Hells revenge is a playground, and is easier than fins in my opinion. Anything hard on that trail is optional.

Haha!! Thanks. I think the shelf road on Gemini is what she's a little freaked out about. LOL

Just watched the weather forecast … hit and miss thunderstorms today through Tuesday. Be very careful out there.

Then don’t do Schaefer. :) also easy, but something crazy like a 2000 foot shelf. If you go up Gemini, she’d be on the high side and it likely would be fine.

It's a pretty short section, with a few pull offs.
I've been there with my motorcycle also. Can't wait to get back with the Jeep. Wife wants to try the side by side first. She feels safe with the obvious cage and 4 point harnesses. I've shown her the "cage" in the Jeep, but she doesn't believe me.

People drive like crap on that shelf road. I was glad to be off the shelf road, but if not busy it's not a big deal. We passed about 50 large vehicles which pushed us to the edge. I was in a Wrangler not a Gladiator.

The Jeep is so much safer

Passing crazy people sucks.

Internet is jacked up at the hotel, and having a hard time accessing my iCloud account to upload pics, but.....

Did 2 trails today - Onion Creek both directions - 62 creek crossings that were a BLAST!!! (Hitting them hard. :)

And The southern entrance to Dome Plateau right after crossing the CO river. Man, that kicked my emotional butt. Still recovering. It's rated a 5, but the pucker factor was an 7-8 AFAIC. Actually it was fairly easy, but the stress of multiple broken up rock staircases climbing up 100 feet or so on the edge of the plateau was stressful for me.

The good thing is that the Gladiator is spectacular in terms of what it will climb and pull off. It's ME and my skills that need honing in. Today was a great learning experience.

The #1 thing I learned - and I kinda knew it already, but I was in denial - youtube videos flatten out the most insane obstacles to almost nothing. I will not take 5-6 rated trails for granted ever again. LOL

BTW, my wife was a champ - coaching me, and spotting me thru the nasty stuff. She had a great attitude. Still sketched out by the Gemini shelf and Shaeffer shelfs though. We'll see how that goes when we get there.

I'll keep trying on the pics. Not sure what's going on. Phone is not uploading to iCloud for access since the internet here is dismal.

So glad you’re having fun. I haven’t done either of those. On the list now. Thanks.
