What’s your milage at? I take it it’s your first trans case change? I use MOTUL VI and have for most if it’s 119k km life. Been amazing. Shifting is like butter, it gets changed every Spring time.Ok, so i have changed motor oil & fluid, Transmission fluid and filter, Differential fluid. The only thing left is the transfer case fluid...
What's everybody running?
Don’t risk your t-case. Just go to the dealer and buy the Oem stuff. It’s an easy drain and fill process with a hand pump on the quarts.Ok, so i have changed motor oil & fluid, Transmission fluid and filter, Differential fluid. The only thing left is the transfer case fluid...

The problem is mixing fluid types. Don’t risk it. You’re not draining all the fluid by doing a pan drop. And a flush risks dislodging things and killing your tranny.About to get my ZF8 transmission oil changed and bought Amsoil ATF (which I used for a DIY Trans Case change last year).
There's a lot of opinions on using Amsoil ATF for the ZF8. I don't want to start a debate about it here as there are many threads already but I will ask "Can I use Amsoil?" My 2020 is of course out of warranty.
I'm also thinking its a good time to upgrade my transmission pan to the a PPE pan.
Even if you drop the pan, you’re only replacing most of the fluid, but not close to all. So nope. Thanks! What if I was to drop the entire pan (and replace it with an upgraded PPE pan). Would it make sense then to use Amsoil?
I just did this project with the PPE pan. I see no reason to risk mixing fluids just to save a few bucks on fluid every so often. Thanks! What if I was to drop the entire pan (and replace it with an upgraded PPE pan). Would it make sense then to use Amsoil?
I did a flush on my tranny (the first one had a little glycol contamination problem) and I put AMSOIL FE ATF in. Dealership said good luck but all bets off if transmission blows up. …8k kms later, it implodes and FCA said, it’s my repair bill, not ours. AMSOIL said it wasn’t our oil that caused any problem , it’s FCA’s problem. That went on for 7.5 months. Thanks! What if I was to drop the entire pan (and replace it with an upgraded PPE pan). Would it make sense then to use Amsoil?
The entire tranny holds 9 quarts. Throughout the process, mine took over 6 to top off. It could be done alone, but it would suck. With a second person, it wasn’t too bad. The friend that helped me will get help from me when he’s ready to do his JL soon. With two people we really felt good about doing everything right. It was feasible to not have any spills whatsoever, with a job that could go pretty badly that way.10-4.
How many quarts did the refill require? How was dropping the OEM pan and installing the PPE?
Yep. The Oem fluid is greenish clear when new.I did a flush on my tranny (the first one had a little glycol contamination problem) and I put AMSOIL FE ATF in. In Canada, AMSOIL won’t even pick up the phone and fight for their customers. They might for US citizen customers.
Don’t let these photos scare you but my advise would be to stick with the same chemistry that was in the transmission and don’t change it.

Kevin - from the pictures, not actually seeing it or looking at other "stuff" - that one was due.I did a flush on my tranny (the first one had a little glycol contamination problem) and I put AMSOIL FE ATF in.
