2020 Jeep Gladiator Sport S, 86K miles, rear transfer case drain and fill, found this metal shaving on the magnet, see pictures. How concerned should I be?

When I first opened it, I was sure I’d find bearing race pieces, since the ring gear was fine. But it was the pinion gear. Not in great shape. But it was still moving the jeep.

You seem to have a different pinion bearing , basically an old style "upgrade"

Those were already aftermarket 5.13’s. I honestly didn’t pay much attention to the pinion bearing. But the new one after that came from Revolution as part of their master install kit.

That's what you call a pending failure. Just in time maintenance is better than too late maintenance! :)

Yukon? Looks like bad metalurgy. Yukon had some issues with Pinion ( Produced in China) for a few years now. The way that damage looks it would seem the process to harden the gears failed or the metal itself was not poured right/had impurities in it.
