How did you lift the Jeep that high?

Please enlight me, so I know "how to" next time I decide to try on my driveway
I purchased the jackstands from Amazon. Then using the axles and the floor jack, I raised it up as high as I could…… then I made the plywood giant block that probably weighs about 100 pounds and I put the floor jack on top of that to raise each side up a little more at a time. Easy pleasely.

OK,

What brand and where did you buy this? What are the specs? It seems easier to deploy this in any garage. Even place in my driveway.

That is a general like @Freems and @Panthers65 commented on: Join a DYI garage!

I did so I can work in my Jeep, mine is here:
DIY Auto Repair Shops for Rent and Car Lift Rental in San Jose, CA

P.S.: I was quoted near 5K (before taxes) ins dubious place in Santa Clara, both differentials material+work

Premier West Gears gave me a decent quote near 2K, but I had no saying they choose material, however I think it was only one Axle (not specified), since the parts price matches a single ring+pinion+extras (Oh yes they are on LA area) Them I trust.

Hence decided doing myself (dubious shop cause this) being accumulating the necessary tools, and took the Dana Training missing one exame to request certification, but I already can work on it, since near me only sketchy shops, and the good ones I had to climb Santa Cruz Mountains, to get to them (good shops), but not looking to drive up-mountain after a new regear
Wildfire XLT lift. It’s 9000 pounds and 6’10” under lift clearance. I’m just over 6’5”, and I wanted to be able to raise the lift all the way up and walk under it without hitting my head or ducking, as I don’t always work in a rig while it’s in the lift…motorcycles is an example.

Just got a quote from eastcoast gear supply to put 4.88s in my Mojave. This seems more inline if i wanted a locker added not just a straight regear.

I've had several quotes here in Columbus Oh and the most expensive one was 2700

That would be worth the drive from Cleveland, mind sharing shop info?

I have done more than a few re-gears. Labor is a big part of getting it right. To do a front re-gear in 4 hours someone is just kidding themselves. 12 hours to do both ends is a fair estimate. i just had mine done last week. it took them with two folks 8 hrs. But now you are paying for labor x2. I am sure you can find some shop in the stick to cut a few dollars off this, but do they give you a 5 year warrantee on part and labor? I hazard a guess no. The average here in NoVA for complete re-gear is $2000-2500 an end and most keep it for 2 days. Warrantee..... no where near 5 years..... most only give you 30 days.

Here's what I paid in 2022, for comparison: Subtract the highlighted line item.

I just contacted them for a price and its now $3600. Went up a crazy amount, closest shop to me but I just cant spend that much. I would be happy with $2400.

I think the ease of regearing was the only positive my old Tacoma had over the Gladi. Buy already assembled third member and clamshell from ECGS that literally just bolted in place. Fairly simple to install yourself, and then ship cores back for the core refund. IIRC after all was said and done it was $2100 since I had a factory e-locker.

If I were to do it again I'd bring it to a lift though. Moving the components around the garage I said "meh these aren't that heavy, this should be easy", but trying to manhandle those SOB's while laying on your back under a truck on jack stands was a real chore. I felt it for the next week.

If they are charging you 12 hours of labor- RUN…. A ligit gear shop should have you in and out in a couple hours. Wrong side of the country but- Premier West Gears in Riverside Re-regeared my JKU in an hour and a half…. And I slowed them down BSing and asking questions. With Motive gears and tax It was ~$1500

IMG_1439.jpeg
And how have the motive gears performed for you.

Received two quotes for 4.88s yesterday;

Shop A) $3800 and 12hrs for Dana
Shop B) $4900 and 16hrs for Revolution

Also, since I'm reading that 12 hours is high for a gear change, it could be for two techs @ 6hrs each. Thats how a lot of construction and contracting jobs are bid, the labor you're paying for is per person, not per job, so it might be the same case with these shops.

You might take a look at the Jack Rod which turns your car jack into a regular jack stand as it takes all the weight off the hydraulics and helps prevent the jack from failing.

$3700 is what my local shop quoted me for going from 4.10 to 5.13.......and that's with the veteran/homie hook up; I live in the DMV and nothing is cheap here.

I have worked in the automotive industry off and on for the last 30 years. People as a whole over look the cost and overhead with running a shop. To hire qualified techs cost a boat by itself. A regear is not a task for an Quick lube person. Only reason I won't do it myself it the cost for the tools to do it right would exceed the saving.

It's very much a buy once cry once........unless if you cheap out and go with Yukon gears .........you'll cry again when the pinion gear sheds itself..........ask me how I know.

Food for thought, no hate and shit. Just keeping it real.

Cheers!
