For starters, the Raptor can tow more and has a higher payload than the JT. Putting a V8 in the JT will reduce those capacities. The live valve suspension in the Raptor is built for high speed off road, something the JT sucks at without a lot of work. What's the point of V8 power and speed in a truck that can't use it?
Torque... factory says my diesel won't tow what a 3.6 will which is laughable and it will climb straight up a wall.... I lived in the Mojave desert, watched trophy trucks run from my front porch... none of the raptors or even jeep mojave ever run fast (our VW's did)... and even if they did, it really limits that ability to a specific area of the country, raptors arent running fast in Tennessee.... or any badge trail....
You didnt mention the front suspension articulation limitations of the raptor which limits where it cant go that the jeep can....

So on the conversion, there is no smog on it?
Calif wants to regulate cow emissions, and likely human ones at some point.... unless the v8 is OEM, emission referees will do it on a case by case basis with no guarantee of approval

Crate engines not allowed. Must come from a vin vehicle and everything must be used the same. It can be done but they make it almost not possible . Easier to just register it in another state.

Raptor pricing for a midsize truck that can't do Raptor things lol
I used to think the gladiator(Mojave) couldn’t do raptor things until I started doing things my buddy does in his raptor. Going 50+ in the dunes, jumping a couple feet in the air and cruising through washboard roads are all things I’ve done with ease. Now mine is my daily so I don’t send it by any means, my friend however will send it and accept the outcome weather it’s bad or good. He’s got deep pockets.

Your tow rating went down because the engine in the JT isn't the limiting factor. Heavier engine = less capacity. If you want torque, your diesel already has more than the 5.7 you're creaming over, and it's available at ~1600 rpm vs ~4000 rpm in the V8.

How many of those badge trails are you planning to run with a V8 at 4000 rpm?

V8s are basically just for boomer sales at this point, a population that is declining.

I would like to have the V8 for on road stuff, help moving larger tires and axles. A little extra power for offroad crawling would be nice at times but not the real draw of a V8 for me.

Considering a gen 3 crate 5.7 is in the $5-7K range, and to replace my eco diesel is currently running almost 19K just for the crate motor for when it ultimately explodes prematurely , and IF Jeep is dumb enough to try to charge $80-100K for a 5.7 Gladiator, consensus from everyone should be 2 fingers up to the CEO!!!!!!!🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

IMO, a factory JTR with a 5.7 will be about $90K plus T&L in calif puts it at 100K, possibly more. Well, when they are on the lots I'll decide if I want one . An AWD unit is a no go. They will probably do all they can to mess it up.
Do you realize that the 3.0L turbo Hurricane engine is a $2700 upgraded over the 3.6 in a Ram 1500 and that’s a much more complicated engine than the 5.7 so it should be cheaper..no where near $90k. If they were to try that then sales will suffer and I believe Tim K is not interested in that.

FYI TIME: The State of California Engine Change Guidelines are contained within the Smog Check Reference Guide.

State and Federal anti-tampering laws specifically prohibit any modification to the vehicle's original emission control system configuration as certified by the manufacturer (California Vehicle Code section 27156 and Title 16, Section 3362.1 of the California Code of Regulations).

Remember; 9 Northeast & several Pacific states have given CARB the authority for their state regulations.

Due to some misinformation, and exaggeration; people across the country think the California style smog laws are the end of engine swaps. Even in California, many automotive enthusiasts believe it is against the law to perform engine swaps.

The basic intent of the California engine change laws is that when you do an engine swap, the new engine/transmission cannot pollute more than the original engine/transmission. This means the newly installed engine must be the same year (or newer) as the vehicle, and all emissions controls on the newly installed engine must be installed and functional. Also, you can't put a heavy-duty truck engine (over 6000 lb GVW) into an S-10 Truck because heavy-duty truck engines have less stringent emissions limits than light-duty trucks.

To get your engine swap approved, you must go to a Referee Station.

You can check this site also.. https://www.bar.ca.gov/engine-changes

Unless it is made with the engine you can probably forget about it in Calif. I can see the dealers marking them up over MSRP and some will pay it. But I have not herd of any official plans of a Hemi in a JT yet from the factory . The AMW Hemi at $40K is still a bit much.
