Are the cable really the weak link? I’m more afraid the tailgate would taco in the middle before the cables would snap.
I suspect when new the cables are fine, but over time cables have been known to fail.
I also worry a bit about the added strain the design for the partial closed set up may have on our cables.

So finally installed my LoadAll in the Gladiator. Loaded up the streetglide today, the truck handles in no problem at all. I have a Rock Krawler 3" lift with 37"s. There is about 1/2" clearance of the bump stops.. But drives and handles fine.

Good to see the bed can handle it well. Gonna be bringing a new Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 home next weekend, and I've never loaded a bike in my JT yet. I'll have to pickup some heavier duty ratchet straps though. I don't trust the ones I have with that much weight.

Its interesting to look at all of this creativeness.
But if you haul bikes even occasionally it might be worth getting a trailer.

I got this trailer back in 08 when I sold my truck. Its much easier than a truck for almost everything because its floor sits a foot off the ground.

Its not that big a deal putting my little RZ350 on it. But when we had to take my Dad's Harley to the dealer to get a problem with the immobilizer fixed, it was MUCH easier than a truck.

Its also great for gravel / sand/ dirt, because I can carry much more, about THREE TIMES (3000 lbs) more than I could in the back of the Gladiator.

I agreed that would be ideal, but in California. Most don't have the room for it, hard to find parking and are limited to 55mph on the highway. Californian's problems i guess.

I would not put my baby back there. I ride it or I don't ride it. I will not carry it back there.

I went the trailer route as well.

Especially for track days, too much effort, and also had some close calls loading the bike into the back of the truck.

No point injuring me, or damaging the bike.

I know some folks in tight spaces do the U Haul rental for the occasional bike moves.

Too, I multi task when spending the night at the track.

Cheap bastage.

Trailer is definitely easier, particularly with 2 bikes or heavy ones.

But there are times and situations that its better/handier not to have a trailer and just throw them in the back.

Kickstand up or down? and why?

I just bought another bike, a little CRF230F. Never had a pickup before and never loaded a bike in a bed. I've had plenty of bikes and even a 4-rail motorcycle trailer and a few hitch carriers.

When I brought it home, I went kickstand up. Two straps at the front (from handlebars) and two straps at the back (hooked to swing arms).

I didn't want the weight on the kickstand at all, was my thought.

Any insight/thoughts are appreciated.

i don't do kick stand down , the bike should be center so in reality the kick stand should not be touching , .. to make is easy for my is i have a wheel chock up front. of course i load and unload my bike alot , but that works for me as i load my bike, put it in the chock , and it holds it up straight to i can just strap it down.
