I've been in the market for some sort of bed storage and between seeing Hooke's new truck bed products and always being intrigued by Pelican's Cargo cases, I decided to finally shop around and came across this military surplus storage box for $72 (SHIPPED).

It was used previously for the transportation of a warhead, seals air/water tight, matches beautifully with my 41' Mojave, and all-in-all just looks cool as shit.

The honest truth is I did not bother to check it's dimensions when I made the purchase. I saw the price and bought it instantaneously.

Turns out it's 70lbs empty and 50" long (lol).

Because the box extends beyond the wheel wells and rests on top of them, it sits taller than the bulkhead and eliminates the use of a tonneau. I'm contemplating buying one of those cheap-o Velcro ones and just have it hump over the box if I ever need to roll it down during rain.

The box is bolted to two 10-inch L-brackets. I don't have trail rails so I bolted the brackets right to where the rails would've been using M6-1.0 x20mm bolts and rubber washers.

Drilled two holes in the box and bolted them down through the bracket with a set of nylon nuts and that's all she wrote...

All in I spent $110 on a storage solution that is capable of holding a large amount of gear, is water tight, and again, looks cool as shit.

- Box - $72
- L-brackets - $22 @ $11/each
- Bolts, rubber/lock washers, nylon nuts $10
- Gym pad - $5 (cut to size on wheel wells where box is sitting on top of).

All that being said, it does turn out that a 70lb stainless steel box is really good at scratching up a truck bed. Not something that can't be fixed/hidden but a bedliner of any kind would have been ideal in this install.

Now time to find some 41' touch to paint (I guess that brings my project cost up huh)

I think that looks awesome. Not only is it unique, but it keeps true to Jeeps history.

Well done.

I like what you have, it is very unique. Shame it was so long, maybe mount closer to tailgate or length wise if you need a tonneau. And you should try preserve the inside packing if you can, a real conversation piece.

Now go to the Army/Navy surplus store and buy one of those inert bazooka rockets. It’ll fit nicely into that cutout!
