It is concerning that there are drivers out there that might do that. I hope this is just a theoretical and not an actual problem that has been reported.

There are many stories of people stomping the accelerator thinking it is the brake. If they used right foot for gas and left for brake they might not make that mistake because they'd be stomping on their own right foot.
It is not theoretical, and what is concerning is that people like you are driving.

You mean people who know left from right and brake from gas and don't stomp on both at the same time?
You can educate the uneducated, but you cannot fix stupid.

No, it is fact that this is why people are taught the proper way is to use the right foot for the accelerator and the right foot for the brake. Just because it is your opinion, does not make it fact.
Beginners are taught that. Race car schools add in the left foot braking.

For MT owners, can you do a tutorial on how to Three Pedal Dance?
I’ve been wheeling for over 4 decades, and until the advent of electronic throttles, it was two feet/right hand, using the hand throttle attached to the transmission shifter. Built a ton of these over the years using a bicycle gear shifter, and still have one attached to the shifter of my 47. Works great to increase the engine rpm for winching as well.

alas, on my 2024 Gladiator, I opted for my first auto transmission…maybe a sign of getting a “little” older.

Graduates of the school of Grand Theft Auto in the viddeit world, in the real world, Race cars normally have clutches, and the drivers use the left foot to open and close the clutch plates to shift gears.

Several of the add on calibrators like Flash Cal +(plus by super chips) has a Crawl mode in that crawl mode ypu can up the idle for winching.

But even race drivers who are taught that and use it on the track, don't do that on the street. Because, well, you're not racing. If you use race techniques on the road, you become that asshole driver everyone wants to get away from.

Yes, this is good information for folks wheeling newer rigs.

I’ve used the system before on my JK but was a pain to plug in and activate so stopped using it. On my JK, I had well over 120 winch pulls on my Warn 10S and never had an issue with the battery. However, on my old jeeps with a small alternator, I’ve drained a battery winching without the hand throttle, so a bigger issue with older jeeps with a cable activated throttle.

I think the issue lies with physics. When you emergency panic brake,, your whole body lunges forward, including your leg and feet. If your right foot was resting on top of the accelerator, then you would inadvertently push down on it.

I find I have way better control of the pedals if I use my hands.
the screaming passengers tell me which one to press…
Reminds me of the joke “When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.”

Jumping to insults shows that you cannot refute my points with logic and facts. Grand Theft Auto School of Driving is hardly a good argument for one-footed driving. Your other argument is that the internet basically thinks some people are too uncoordinated to know what their feet are doing and might press both pedals at the same time. I've heard that argument before and I say anyone who is that uncoordinated or is afraid they might do that should take that advice and drive with one foot.

25mph = 37 ft/s. If I see an iffy situation ahead, I hover my foot over the brake. If I need to brake suddenly, it saves that 1/2 second a one-footed driver takes moving from accelerator to brake. I gain an additional 17 feet of braking. You might quibble on whether it is actually 1/2 second but, whatever you think it is, it decreases the reaction time.

I think the issue lies with physics. When you emergency panic brake,, your whole body lunges forward, including your leg and feet. If your right foot was resting on top of the accelerator, then you would inadvertently push down on it.
I can't see that when panic braking unless the person is so panicked they forget to lift their right foot. Those people probably should be one-footed drivers.

The counter argument is I think it is pretty assured that the one-footed drivers are the ones who accidentally press the accelerator and slam into storefronts thinking their foot is on the brake. A two-footed driver could never do that (with an automatic).
