Hi all , this is my JT

I recently changed the tires for BF AT 35 12.5 R18 and they were not good balancing the tires …

i will go tomorrow to another one and he proposed to put small glass balls like trucks (Magnum+ brand)

what about you ? Have you experience with these small balls in tires ? I searched on website and was not able to find experience… and in France we are not the best about balancing big tires …

thanks in advance for your input :like:

We call them balancing beads and I believe they are geared for using in bigger tires. I had them on my kenda klever rt's (35x10.5x17) and they were ok. In my case, sometimes in situations where my speed varied, the tires would be unbalanced resulting in wheel vibration. That's not to say that will happen for you but that was my experience.

My new tires are balanced with wheel weights and are consistently balanced and I prefer them to balancing beads.

A good tire shop should be able to balance BFG ATs without a problem if your wheels are true. I’m not a fan of the beads. They go out of balance every time you stop, and have to redistribute after starting to spin again before they work.

Go onto Amazon (or pick retailer) they have larger wheel weights (stick on) 1oz each (sometimes larger). Take them to the tire shop when balancing. I used them when balancing mud tires on steel wheels on my TJ…works fine. I think one of mine took 8 oz….goes down the road fine.

Are you able to “road force” balance? That’s next level if regular balancing won’t work.

In my case, I installed 4 + spare 315/70/17 KO3’s and the tire shop did the balance. I went back to have them done again. I still wasn’t happy and went to the dealership to have the road force balance done. The tech found one tire could not be balanced but the other 4 were done.

The tire shop looked at the tech notes and replaced the 5th tire and their balancing of that was good.

I have had several sets of KO2s and balancing them has been a recurring challenge. Looking around online, they do seem to be a 'lumpy' tire.

They have been great for wheeling in the Western US mountains and deserts. Not so good in playa mud! They become instant slicks.

The only accurate tire/wheel balancing is RFB (ROAD FORCE BALANCING). In some cases, this is what is needed for large tires.

Also make sure the shop is locating the yellow or red dot stamped on the sidewall to the fill valve. Those marks are to indicate the lightest end of the tire to be match to the heaviest part of the wheel. Help a lot with reducing the amount of weights needed to be balanced. Also yes have them roadforced balanced. Thats required imo for 99% of AT/MT large truck tires. Except for Mickey Thompson, that manufacturer literally states to not road force their tires.

guys ,

first of all a BIG THANK for your recommendation !

I went this morning and they were able to balance 3 of 4 tires as the 4th has a small deformation (look at weight in grammes on the picture)

they put it on the back.

test done up to 120 km/h (about 75 mph) and it is perfect ! No vibration anymore.

thanks to you guys I learned something and found at least the only one on my area able to do it :like:
