Just did my first oil change for the Mojave at 1,050 mile the oil life was 88% this change was for engine break in.
Filled it with 5 quarts of Penzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 (not a fan of 0W-20) and Mopar MO-349 oil filter.
The good news was no shiny bits in the oil filter the bad news was I drained out 6 quarts of oil.

I guess a tech didn't realize the 3.6l oil capacity in the JL/JT is 5 quarts not 6 so somebody was not thinking.

Also emptied my J&L catch can after 509 miles since installed that maybe had a 1/3 ounce of oil in it.

If you do many dozens of oil changes in a week when other vehicles take 6 quarts while the JL and JT take 5 - easy enough to do.

However, unless you had the oil changed when brand new, that was a factory fill, not a dealership thing.
You are certain it was 6 quarts that came out? measured?

The catch can really isn't catching much of anything at 1/3 ounce in 500 miles.
That's only a bit over 3 ounces in 5,000 miles - and on a new vehicle? That's REALLY low. Rings must be seating well.
In other words - looks like no problems at all.

Happens a lot. Doesn’t seem to have any serious impacts though.
No, it's not going to blow or damage the engine.
I'd be thousands of these were on the highways back in 2019 and 2020 when Jeep first put the upgrade engine in the JL and then later the JT because up to that point, almost everything took 6 quarts and most people take them to the dealership for free oil changes, as opposed to many forum members who do not.
In fact, so many people take their Jeeps back to dealers for the oil changes, it can take some time to get in to some of them.

For all the hate the 3.6 gets. It’s a stout POS. Sure it’s got headaches and failures. But even the cam failed ones still manage to start and move under their own power. For all the abuse mine has been, it has nothing but my respect at this point.

Ole JK 3.6 was 6 qts.... Agreed if you do so many a day, a mistake would be made

I had a Jeep Wave oil change on my 2.0L a year ago. When I check the dip stick when I got home it was over filled.

I find the Jeep 3.6 dipstick to be notoriously inaccurate.

With exactly 5 quarts put back in, run, then shut off for a couple of hours, mine reads up over the molded part back onto the cable.

Yes I measured how much oil is drained out. For the next oil change I'll know for sure 5 quarts went in to compare what will be drained. I was pleased the catch can had so little in it somebody was checking ring gaps and cylinder finish at the Trenton engine plant.

I have yet to own a Pentastar upgrade 3.6 (or even a gen 1) engine that required adding oil between changes. It just didn't pull oil into the chamber via any path that led to a noted drop in level.

Even the 4.0 in my car - doesn't "use" any oil, leak or burn (oh, wait, I built that one, it had better not!).
My 360, that's another matter.............. crazy HP/cube but it enjoys oil.

I used to have a 2021 Grand Cherokee one time I went long on a oil change 7,400 miles. The oil life meter was at 27% and I drained out 5 quarts from the 6 quart system.

That's not long on a change.............

We've had 2015, 2018 and 2021 WK/WK2 Grand Cherokees - that I REMEMBER the years of, plus a 2004, 2003, WJ Grand Cherokee, and ZJ Grand Cherokees before that.
None ever were anything more than maybe 1/4 to perhaps 1/2 quart low. I didn't even keep "extra oil" around beyond for changes - bought when needed.

I have fluids and oils for everything else on hand, but not "extra oil" for the Jeeps. Just what's required for changes bought when needed.

It deserves a drink after a hard day's work.

Mine with a born on date 7/19 takes 6. 5 leaves me just touching the dipstick if at all.

I hate to be a negative nelly here... but I have had to replace my rear main seal on my 3.6 (2018) twice now. First was when I purchased the jeep used. Second time...

Chasing a bad cam shaft I used an engine flush before an engine oil change. The flush was approximately 1 quart of fluid. Ran it 10 minutes. Instantly I got a new leak on the rear main seal.

Pull the rubber plugs in the bottom of the transmission and watch it closely.
