My 3.6 has 2,200 miles on it and I drained 1 ounce of oil from my J&L catch can after it's been installed for 1,175 miles. The catch can holds 3 ounces of oil so at 3,000 miles it might be full.
At least the oil isn't going into the intake so it's doing it's job.

That's not a lot of oil. It may actually go down as it breaks in.

There are 32 ounces in a quart.
At this rate, it's about 4.25 ounces per 5,000 miles. that's 1/8 of a quart in 5,000, 1/4 in 10,000 miles.
Pretty small amount.

Catching 3 ounces of oil in 3,300 miles isn't that bad. The 3.6 probably has low tension piston rings which is low friction and good for gas mileage and bad for blowby. It's certainly not a quart every 1,000 miles as some manufactures say is acceptable.

These do have low tension rings.
I've also noticed in my last Jeeps that the mpg increased some after about 7,000 miles or so - indicating a bit more improvement as things wear in and so on.

(I don't even drop a quart of oil between changes in the 4.0 I put in my car........ I'd never accept that rate)

Totally normal, I just reached 24K and I got about that much at my last oil change.

I never heard of a catch can until I joined this forum. I think I can come up with better modifications to my engine.

I empty mine about every 1000 miles, If we are idling alot on trails I tend to get more in the catch can. I still get a little residual in the intake tube, but not like it was before the catch can. Re-circing oil into the intake may be "ok" but id prefer not to. Necessary, maybe not, just preference really.
