So I was doing my transfer case fluid exchange and everything was going fine until started to fill it up with the pump i nabbed off of Amazon. The end piece went too far into the hole and when I pulled it back out, click, it fell into my transfer case. So for everyone that grabs one of these pumps, just take off the end and save yourself the hassle. It took me 5 days and I finally got a bore camera with a multi directional head to knock it into the cove of the drain plug and snatched it. I was very lucky and scared I would have to tear apart the transfer case.

I feel for you brother. I did a fluid change just a month ago prior to a 3 week wheeling trip, put the identical filler tip in and ALMOST lost it inside. Needle nose pliers saved me so nothing like your anxiety but I surely recognized it could have gone way worse.

The issue is that the side arms fold in, but fishhook out if inserted all the way inside the housing? What’s the nominal purpose of that piece? Seems destined for heartache with this design

It worked originally by keeping spout in the hole, but as I pumped it slid further in. Then as I pulled it out it separated from house and fell in.

That's smart. I was trying to stay oem for the fluid. Maybe I'll go this route next time.
This is a picture of the oil I used when I changed the gears in my motorhome that’s on an F550 chassis. I have a while before my Gladiator needs a transfer case oil change, so haven’t researched bag options, but I know I will be using the bag method, as it SOOOOO much easier.

Someone else had the same issue recently either here or the JL side. They wound up have to remove and split the transfer case to get it out.

I agree, remove and chuck these fittings.

I used that borescope that tilts 180 degrees at the tip and pushed it into drain channel. Used the grabber in the picture and pulled it to where I could get nose plyers on it. Yanked it out. Last option was tear apart shaft to unbolt the transfer case. I also read its really finicky getting it resealed unless you take it all the way off.

Is that what you used for oil? I do believe that ATF+4 is what it calls for.

You have more trust in dealers than a lot of us. I get peace of mind doing it myself. Fluid changes at a dealer will never give me that.

One of the few. Glad you’ve got them. I like my parts department, so that’s nice at least.
