My reason why I bought my first Jeep and last Jeep solid axles including all in between solid axles. My has Wrangler over 250000 miles all it has needed needed one u-joint, I still have the second one. After 200000 miles R.R axle shaft seal started to leak. šŸ¤” Why do I like and want solid axles, the s### show I've seen with IFS vehicles. Yeah better on road performance and better at emptying wallet for repairs and replace parts. So many parts moving at each and every bump. Why do many Toyota guys swap in solid axles. If wanted to drive car I would buy a ####ing car or if wanted to see if I slalom the dragons tail I'd get a sport car. Damn sure know if my 90XJ would have failed hard many times over if it was a IFS likely in my first year or two of having it.

Also rectangle headlight pods of sorts. But as far as IFS? That’s kind of a deal breaker for me, even though my 13 month old Gladiator with only 14,000+ change miles had developed the dreaded death wobble. It’s just a Sport S with factory 245/75-17 Bridgestone Dueler HT tires I run at 32 psi all around. Back over the last 6 months I’ve felt a very slight wobbly feel in the steering after hitting certain med bumps in the road. But yesterday on a 120 mile round trip 70-75 mph trip at a leisurely 22.5 mph, I had a couple episodes of moderate wobble, enough to warrant slowing down with a slow side to side steering motion to cancel out the wobble, that worked well, of course luckily there was no traffic nearby. I’m about to get the oil changed for the third time, I wasn’t planning on doing to my dealer, but now I have something else to be looked at, there does seem to be a lite stain/seepage? On the bottom side of the steering damper, so I hope that’s all. If so I’m going to try to have the dealer use the warranty to co vs er the labor, but I’ll pay for an upgraded dampener, like Bilstein 5100, to have them installed instead. If they won’t, maybe if the warranty replacement fails nearer to the end of the warranty? Wish me luck.
The set of them I had on mine of them crap tires were all over unless I had 40 or higher pressure on road and found every nail and screw around. I had better results with the AT tires and ran most of the tread off along with better MPG. The AT's were on mine the second set came from a member here as take offs right after he bought his. SportS Max-Tow same as mine. My D.D. was about 110 miles then, I won't talk about how underwhelming off pavement, and short tread life. It felt like the truck was squirming on road on fair roads at 50 and above under 40-45 psi. Wet or snow a big no for me. 😳 Also the change from aluminum steering gearbox to iron (2020) helped too. I didn't think it was a problem in mine until I was seeing my tracks on wet pavement in rear view mirror. A first year model problem.

And that's exactly what Jeep (Stellantis) doesn't want to hear, which is why they're making more vehicles (models) that appeal to a larger audience.
They should leave Jeep as Jeep, at least the Wrangler and Gladiator, and not go Ford's Bronco and Bronco Sport path.

No, please.
Yes, I have them on my Eagle, but honestly - going back to the 1980s design?
Won't really help. As long as headlights are recessed at all, they will gather snow and ice.

They could keep them round if they brought them forward and didn't recess them.
Otherwise, even rectangular, such at the YJ, if it's recessed, it will gather stuff if it's LED.
My Eagle only works in snow and ice because they are halogen lamps. Otherwise, they are recessed enough I have had to knock ice off of them.

I'm pretty sure Jeep isn't going to do away with the SFA in the Wrangler. They might add a IFS into the lineup, but the SFA option will continue to exist in the Wrangler.

Solid axles are simpler and stronger than IFS and superior in articulation - I've said that since the beginning of this discussion and said it for decades before. But that doesn't mean it's "better" than independent suspension, it means it's better for certain use cases. The same is true for independent suspension, it's better than solid axles depending on use case.

Different tools for different jobs.
I'll keep setting finish nails with my sledge hammers.
Do I need the full capability my solid axles Jeeps have for most of my driving not chance, do I want it definitely. I don't want to be buying short living parts all the time, I'm not blasting across the desert or crawling over curbs and speed bumps at the local mall ether. 🤭
(Respectfully I trimmed off part of your post to save some bandwidth)
General posting... AKA ranting in general.
Strange the Dodge Dakota was the death nail for the Comanche, not wanting two many horses running in same race.
Other one I think I remember Chevy/ GMC saying it has that car like ride with IFS in their trucks... Then having guys who really running them in harsh conditions or off-roading swapping them out with custom solid or Ford Super Duty axles. Something similar in Toyota trucks too.šŸ¤”šŸ¤
In my years I've noticed a lot of people with certain personalities driving a select few brands of vehicles Mercedes, Volvo, BMW and several GM models, Not all though. In part joking.

I remember when they said they were going to make the Mustang a four door family sedan to compete with the bastardized Charger, but the backed down from the customer outrage... until they did it anyway with the Mustang Mach E.
I also remember when they were going to make a "Fairlane" minivan. Thankfully the minivan market collapsed before they did it.

Agreed! If they want to make a new vehicle, make a new vehicle, but don't destroy the heritage of a succesful model in the hopes of a few nostalgia sales at the expense of the solid fan base.

I'll keep my solid axles and coil springs, rides great and wheels awesome! Seen and worked on plenty of broken IFS on the trail.

VAM built a 4 door version of the AMC Spirit for the Mexican market - was popular there.

I wouldn't have bought my Wrangler or my Gladiator if they didn't have a proper pair of solid axles. I won't buy any truck with car suspension, which means only the Gladiator, Ineos Grenadier/Quartermaster, Ram HD, and Ford SD are of any interest to me. If Jeep throws away the tried-and-true solid axles, they've lost me as a customer.

And whomever says that solid front axle vehicles ride poorly and have vague steering needs to take my Gladiator for a spin; it rides and steers terrific!

The new Ram Dakota is is going to be based on the Gladiator frame with IFS. Think that will be the start of the switch over.
